Help me make my tank pretty :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The other option of course is to drain the tank all the way down, glue (silicone) whatever fake plants you want to the bottom glass wherever you want them, then refill and there ya go. I've grown anubias on drift wood before and it looks great, needs almost no light or care. +1 for that idea. Pothos are GREAT plants to put in the water for reducing nitrates and adding visual appeal. I got some little clear plastic baskets that suction cup to the side of the tank (bathroom accessory from the supermarket) and I put pothos cutting in them. In days they had roots in the baskets and in very little time I had long, beautiful vines flowing across the tank tops and over the sides. Nitrates stayed extremely low even when I got behind on water changes.

Nearest landscaping place will have them, or go find them. I find all mine, California granite looks nice in tanks

Agreed. I got mine from a landscaping store. They were priced by the pound.

I will echo another user's comment to go check out any local landscaping suppliers. The one I went to really didn't care if we rolled rocks around and hand-picked them. They charged something like 8 cents a pound, I got about 150 pounds of rock for 13 bucks -- a hair more than a day pass to that park that you'd be stealing from. ;)

I also use Michaels hobby store fake plants.

If you want to raise the water level to the top, you are definitely going to have to raise that peace lily. It may like sogginess, but it's not going to survive being submerged.

Wow, looks like I'll be heading to a landscaping store today. I wonder if they allow dogs....Every employee in Lowes knows me, because I always have the attention-hogging Border Collie with me :)
Sounds much better than the river, because I don't have to pay money if I don't find anything I like. Unlike the river where I'm paying $10 to see if I can find anything!

I'll raise the lily up higher, that's easy. Just gotta raise the angle of the driftwood. I'm going to do what was suggested and cut a hole for the Lily to go out the top of the egg crate. I want to raise the water level as high as I can...I'm just worried one of my Bichirs might use the plant to get out the hole in the egg crate?

Not a fan of fake plants, but what vines do you use?? I really like that idea!!

Why will nobody answer my question about the Bichirs &eggcrate?

I have Coralife lights on right now but one is a 50/50 that gives the right side a more purplish color, so I definitely need to start saving for a new light for that side.

I don't keep bichirs. I suggest opening a seperate topic in the bichir section...people who know may not look at a beautify tank thread.
