Help me pick out a canister filter.

if ur planning on getting rid of all ur current filtration, u might have to spend a little more then u would like ($150). however, u can always try to find what ur looking for on craigslist or in the classified. a 90 with a single Oscar wont be too bad, anymore Oscars or fish that produce that type of mess would require way more then ur set budget would allow. keep this in mind if u plan on getting more O or other messy eaters. the Eheim pro series or a FX 5 or Fluval 405 would be ur best bet IMO. another option would be to buy two small canister filters; i would recommend 2 Eheim 2213 or 2215, again depending on how much u wanna spend.

:)
What about a 2217 and a 2215 Either way in his budget Maybe an AC110 (I know I know its not a canister but both of mine are almost totally silent) But an ac110 and a emp 400 would be plenty :)

I really wanted a canister filter but if I get this waterfall problem figured out would another Emperor 400 do the trick?

Yeah that would do the trick. I prefer Aqua clears to the emperor series but everyone has different preferences.

i didnt mention the 2217 because its a more powerful and more expansive canister filter compared to the the 2213 and 2215 . i was suggesting 2 small ones as another option.

Too bad you don`t feel comfortable increasing your water level, it`s going to cost you $$$.
Buck for buck, an additional hob would give you your best value.
Of course, if you have your heart set on getting a canister, the eheim classic series is a clear winner. When you factor in service life, choices of media, and quiet operation..these guys rule..that`s why they have been around so long, they work.

oh I see :) Fair logic

Although many people will probably jump on this comment,

If you're looking for a cheap canister filter, the Marine land ones are not bad on a budget. They are a little louder and the setup is tougher but they do the trick.

XP3!...Save up a little more and pack it full of bio.. I have a xp3 and a magnum 350 on my 90 and both are very quiet. You will need a second xp3 later on with the "O's" in there. good luck.
