  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love all the self proclaimed experts that devise these amazing concepts and formulas. Meanwhile they have zero first hand knowledge or experience. Some of them have their own websites too. Amazing stuff.

Well I'll sum everything up for all of us lol.

Liveaquaria (Really enjoy thier site! Lol) do sell awesome fish and give good info on them except thier sources of tank sizes are off.

I say liveaquaria because I believe lot's of mfk members been to thier site lol. In my opinion a suitable tank for the following sharks are:

Common Sharks In Trade Common Adult Size

Nurse Shark Up to 120 Inches
Black Banded Bamboo Cat Shark Up to 42 Inches
White Banded Bamboo Cat Shark Up to 38 Inches
Marbled Cat Shark (True) Up to 24 Inches
Cali Horn Shark Up to 47 Inches
Leopard Shark Up to 50 Inches
Black Tip Shark Up to 80 Inches
Epaulette Shark Up to 42 Inches

Shark Tank Dementions (L x W x H) Gallonage

Nurse Shark 30ft x 20ft x 4ft 17,978
Black Banded Bamboo 10.5ft x 7ft x 2ft 1,101
White Banded Bamboo 9.5ft x 6.3ft x 2ft 863
Marbled Cat Shark True 6ft x 4ft x 2ft 359
Cali Horn Shark 11.5ft x 8ft x 2ft 1,379
Leopard Shark 12.5ft x 8ft x 4ft 2,996
Black Tip 20ft x 13ft x 4ft 7,790
Epaulette Shark 10.5 x 7ft x 2ft 1,101

Marbled Cat Sharks look somewhat similar to White Banded Bamboo sharks according to liveaquaria.

The Length and Width of the tank are based on 3x total common lenths of sharks and 2x coomon length of shark for Width. The height I personally based it on activity levels of fish. Also I believe the sizes of these sharks are accurate feel free to edit it.

Hope I Helped
from what ive read some of those tank sizes are still to small

Okay - Ponds, lagoons Or aquariums that have a length of 3 x the shark's max, and a tank width that is about 2 x the shark's max - may work for benthic sharks - like Bamboos, Eppies, Wobbies, horns & Nurse sharks. Although IMPO- these are still a bit small for most of these sharks.

But theses figures are way too small for keeping active swimming sharks -like Leopards, Smoothhounds & requiem sharks. These sharks tend to need lots of room.

Also it should be noted that it's the Blacktip Reef shark that is regularly found in captivity & some in the hands of private aquarists - Not the Blacktip Shark. The Blacktip shark tend to be very difficult for even public Aquariums to keep - and nearly impossible for private aquarists.

I could not have said it better myself capo. I mean really? For all you self proclaimed experts, I would like to throw this out there for you. How about you guys fess up and let us all in on what sharks and rays you guys have really kept and what size systems you have managed. Any buddy can talk so lets see pics.
This by no means applies too zoodiver and waterbaby cause we all know what they do for a living.

I don't think people are self proclaimed experts. I think they try to act like they know a little bit about what they are doing so they don't get comments like these. Which either way it always ends up like this. Turbo i have nothing against you but your coming off as a self proclaimed expert, just chill man. People are going to be people over the internet. Not everyone can bust out a 50k tank, well i am planning my 5k soon :naughty:

I think the real problem is places like live aquaria :screwy:

I can't own sharks. They would become shark bait hoohoohah! LoL expensive dinner for my tank :D. Always wanted one though!

just felt like posting the pics :D even though i don't know that much about sharks nor do i claim to. I know they don't need a trigger pecking them to death

trust me I am in no way an expert. I never have claimed to be. My point was if someone is going to sit around and preach about tanks sizes, temp ranges, and growth rates I would just like to hear of peoples first hand experiences not something they read on a liveaquaria.com. Sorry man I didn't mean to come off like a dick but now everybody knows you have cared for a large tank and might know a thing or two.

Love the shot of the blueline trigger - I have a blueline grouper with similar color. I love it. And I always wanted a big green moray, ever since one attacked me in the Caymans - but went with sharks instead...

I'm just saying people will figure out who's advice to follow. No one is really an expert on here, just few. What also determines an expert?

I find that research can not add up to experience. Nor can experience add up to research. Both together are a powerful thing. Experiences lead to new research, why haven't the experts contacted liveaquaria or other places to change that minimum tank size?
