I moved out to Germany from the UK, going there was successful coming back a complete disaster. My advice with a move that's 15 hrs away with a day or two delay would be to sell the stock. Moving is stressful enough with out worrying about fish.
Ya know who caused the biggest issue. The pearsei. Even the wife said we need to do everything possible to keep him. Her exact words were "hulks coming with us"
Well i had a "man to man " with my son and we're shooting around ideas on how to make this easier.
I wanted to see how much he loves his fish. I gave him an option of selling off all the fish and after the move we get an aro and apurenis cat (he loves these two fish) i knew what his answer would be i needed to hear him say it. Of course he said no way not the bichirs or hulk the pearsei.
In all honesty the bichirs are an easy move the fish are rock solid. He agrees that maybe we sell some of our smaller fish and the vulture cat. Moving just the bichirs and two cichlids should be easy with all the suggestions ive been given in this thread
I'd get the biggest bins you have space for and can handle. 6 days is a long time and you really have to plan for the worst case scenario. Even if everything runs like clockwork you will still be stressed and knackered when you reach your destination so if they need an extra day or 2 in the bins while you set everything up bigger will be better.
I remember you mentioned you recently quit smoking so you will need a lot of willpower on that side too, I smoked like a pig during our recent move.
FYI, you can get an oxygen tank st any local weld shop. You will also have to get a regulator with it and then you can fill the bags with oxygen.
I’m still looking for a job down in Florida myself. I’m trying to have something lined up for when I graduate in May in Mechanical Engineering. I’ve mainly been looking in the Orlando/Melbourne area, but I also have a lead in Pensicola. Maybe I’ll check out Jacksonville too.
That vulture is a hit but it would definitely lighten your load and your not sure if it will work long term anyway.
The pearsei and the remaining polys there's no way I'd let go. Your looking at 5yrs to get a pearsei to that size again and the polys have unique colors imo.
This is just me man & this will absolutely suck either way. I would probably rent a minivan or at the bare min a small suv. This would be my fish mobile. Go down the week before (2 people would be best to spread out fatigue). Set up the totes in a decent spot cover the tops the next day. Rent a low budget focus or something then make the trip back after a good night's rest.
This will knock the stress of worrying about your fish out. I would be one irritable dude transporting fish and fam that distance.
