I know I should be saving up my tax refund money, You guys know the feeling is to have a big tank in your home. Plus I have a sweet spot for it in the house. been planning and scheming for the past couple of months. I like the ideas so far am taking a week off in April maybe then I can drive to wherever and get a tank. the main point of my post is to spend my $3000 without going over budget.

Man I wish I had money to buy an aro and a nice big tank. My largest is a 27. I'm looking for a 55 but some day... Some day in the far future I will have a DIY indoor pond with a ton of amazing fish.
if you want to go huge tank and do not care about what its made of and have plenty of room you could go with plywood glass and wood for making wall frames pond liner or epoxy which ever u like. i made me a nice (at least in my mind set up ) for 1200-1500 bucks for everything. it holds 825 gallons and is pretty big. here is a link to check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmLlyFjl95U

to the guy who said this....Shippings is not 100 for all fish lol...you will never find 3 motoros for 300 bucks shipped. Even vamp only has them for $100 each with $85 shipping...
um i could get someone 3 motoros for 300$ bucks shipped. i used to sell them for 95 bucks then charge 45 for shipping but if your ordering 3 they can be packed all together to save on shipping and when people ordered 3 i would give them a discount on the price. id only make like 25 bucks on the deal but i was more in the business to help people get the fish they wanted more than making money

Buy the largest used tank you can, start looking now. Try not to let the money burn a hole in your pocket! I just bought a used 450 for $1000
Filters also buy used. The cheapest way to filter a large system is wet/dry. Get what ever container you can find and put in a submersible pump for the return. Rubbermaid, used 55 gallon tank, whatever holds water. Build up PVC frame on the inside of the tank to hold up the pre-filter. Under that put in your bio media, scrubbies, bio balls, old cut up PVC. Separate these sections with light diffusers/egg crate and the last section put in a submersible pump. Done and simple
Get a T12 shop light from HD. 4' 2 to 4 bulbs $30 to $50 there
I would have a simple metal stand welded with 2" stock. That might cost $200 - $300. Paint it black and skin it with plywood later if needed.
Heaters, thermometers, nets, all this stuff can be bought used or as needed

I AGREE TO EGONS ADVICE..THE WET TO DRY SYSTEM IS WHAT I WANNA DO WITH MINE SOON.I HAVE THAT IDEA ALREADY PLANNED OUT IN MY HEAD.THE POWERHEAD AND ALL.JUST GOT TO GET THE TANK AND GET IT STARTED.
