help my fx5 blowing alot of air in the tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is a known problem with fx5s... If the filter is new, this usually goes away after a week or so. If it is old and has been running, it usually means it needs a cleaning. Have you tried shaking the filter and/or unplugging and plugging it back in a few times? What media are you using?

can anyone tell what wrong with my fx5 it shooting out air for a hold day already?

I had the same problem when i had the fx5, it was bought new and i got so frustrated that i sold it, no time for playing araund with a filter that its performance is mediocre, you are coming home and the last thing you want to do its open a canister and try to figure was wrong, two words sell it. There is a ton of menbers in here with the same problem.

There are way more MFKers that LOVE their FX5s than those that have had problems with them... I cant think of a single filter brand I haven't had an issue with at some point. FX5 is a great filter, period.

Are you running any fine polishing pads? Every fx5 I've ever had blows air when I use really fine sponge. Also, make sure you don't have too much of any type of sponge in the trays. All I have In mine is the sponge on the outer perimeter, and the trays full of bio. No problems. Plus, Thats one of the things that is so rad about fx5's. You can cram a ton of bio media in em'!

That its true that probably more people like the filter; then those who doesn't, but if I'm going to buy something that its known for some issues, i will probably stay away from that purchase. After owning fx5 for six months, my thoughts are not to impress, 6 liters of media on the baskets, constant cleaning, can't use polishing pads, micro baubles, ugly intake looks like a big computer mouse, so you end up with a bucket full of sponges that pushes 900gph, sorry not put your filter down but i have eheims running for 20 years no problems, its true eheim cost a little more in the beginning, but cheaper on the long run; not to mention no hassle with them, i own 10 and not one has had issues.

thank for all the help guys it was my media i using biomax from fluval and carbon. found out the biomax is shooting out with small air bubble so i took out he new biomax and use my old one from my fluval 405 and it stop

I find this odd with people... . Why use polishing pads when you know that's the issue? I have another idea, replace the coarse sponges with 20/30 ppi sponges... there is your fine filtration needs.

Also the filter does not push 900 gph

fx5 is a great filter, but didn't the makers test out the fine polish pads? i first used those pads for a couple days and it started giving me problems, so i threw them away.
