Help! My oscar has bloat!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How much should I add?

I believe it's one teaspoon normally, and two for medicinal purposes. (per gallon)

Not sure though, wait for someone else to chime in.

This is from a guide oddball wrote.

NEVER USE SALT (sodium chloride, a.k.a. aquarium salt) for treatment of dropsy. This will KILL your fish in a very short time. The affected fish are already having a difficult time getting rid of salts due to kidney dysfunction. This causes the blown up appearance and concurrent scale standing. The osmotic imbalance caused by addition of sodium to your tank water will make this condition far worse.

Sorry, I had to run to pick up dinner. I called a friend who I consider to be an expert. One question...do you have epsom salt available? Or, can you run to a pharmacy real quick?

I have absolutely no money until tomorrow morning so I can't buy anything tonight.

I hear ya'. Epsom salt is dirt cheap if you can scrounge up some change.

We'll skip that for now.

He said to do a 30% water change, take temp to 80 degrees, turn the lights off and try to isolate. All of these will reduce stress.

its like no more than 2 bucks, and its your best bet its a natural laxitiv will help with constipation....

Epsom salt sir, what this will do is give him the ****s and he will pass out what is giving him this problem. Change the water after 2 days by 50% and add more epsom salt equal to what you took out of your tank. 1/2 cup per gallon

Will a pharmacy be the best place to get this?
