He's huge but still seems strong.

It has been a constant uphill battle with the health of this oscar. I saved him from a per store that took horrible care for him and he has slowly been getting better until now. His stomach is massive. I'm trying to get pics but my ****ing phone won't charge! How should I treat this? Should I quarantine him? Is it contagious? Anything else I should know?

Give him some peas.

Some of his old tank mates are showing signs of infection so I want to treat that tank as well. Should I remove my rope fish and plecos? I know plecos can be sensitive to some meds and ropefish can be as well. I'm not sure how metro will affect them.

Yeah, I would isolate them. From what I know, bloat is only problematic for African rift lake cichlids. No other fish can contract the disease. But I am not sure how the medication will effect them.

I'll wait to see if symptons show up. Because I think I'm just being kind of paranoid. If African rift lake cichlids are the only fish that can contract it then what is wrong with my oscar?

Sorry, I had my daughter asking me a question and two Huskies fighting over the arm of my chair when I was replying to you. I was meaning to type what I had just found about bloat and African rift lake Cichlids as far as possible parasites and totally lost my train of thought and obviously any reasoning. :D

Okay lol.

He's still alive, but his stomach is huge. It looks like he is trying to poop out a golf ball which makes me think he is seriously constipated. I added a little more metro and some epsom salt. I'm doing a water change tomorrow and I'll add more metro and salt and see if he pulls through. This guy has beaten like 4 other diseases and is my favorite/largest fish. If he dies I'll be crushed.

Well, the good news is, he has already beaten the odds. I read that 24-72 hours is all the time they have once major swelling starts to show. Keep up the treatments and let us know how he's doing.

Good luck!
