I purchased a histrix a few days ago and his eye was damaged during shipping! Now his eye is red and swollen and you cant even make out any part of it! What do I do? I have the heat at 84 and a little salt. My water is in good condition. ANY ADVICE???:confused::confused:

pics might help.
how much salt did you add ?
what size is your tank ?
any other tankmates ?

i would say keep that water as perfect as you can for now!
gonna have to wait till another more experienced ray keeper chimes in.

usually when treating 100 gal 3lbs of salt is used or 1 tablespoon for every 5gal
and when adding salt to a tank ALWAYS disolve it in a bucket of tankwater before adding it to your tank.
NEVER just dump salt in as it can burn your ray

do you have any other tank that could serve as a hospital tank?

could you take some pics possibly so we can all see what your dealing with?

that's exactly right. always 3 lbs per 100 gallons. a hospitalization tank would be super helpful right now. is he eating? make sure he continues to eat. keep it dark. 84 degrees is great.

is it a bacterial or fungal infection then?
or just a beating from the shipping?

I Just use the aquarium salt from the lfs

You can also get kosher salt and some peeps use pure solar salt.
