in my exp. just leave everything be, they are spawning because they feel comforatable enough to raise their babies . I know it's hard to do but i suggest leaving well enough alone. If a spawn is not successful, a pair will try again in 10-12 days usually, you will be able to soon predict egg time with alarming accuracy

i am worried that if they aquaint themselves eating the eggs, they will just eat the eggs every time they spawn.

by the way, looking into a dark blue water with methylene blue, how am i suppose to know if the eggs are opaque or white?. all i can see are the same white colors under the dark blue water. i tried to compare the color of the eggs by dipping a white object in the water. the white object ands the eggs are not of the same color while dipping a semi transparent object in the water gives me the same coloras the eggs:confused:. still i am in doubt that the most of the eggs are fertilized.

just leave it to the parents.if they mess up,they can only become better parents and they will learn to do things right.thats how it happens in the wild.

when the eggs are laid, they are a yellow-orange-ish color.if they are fertilized, you will see little dots on the eggs befor they hatch.if unfertile, they will turn whitish, and start to get fuzzy after a while and the parents will eat them.

The more you leave the eggs with the parents, the more they learn on how to be a successful pair. You might not see any fry for 1-2 spawns, but they will ace it after that.

Hello,
Unfortunately, I am not an expert on Oscars and have no advice to give to you. But I have a question regarding your pair. I'm interested in Oscars and am contemplating on getting myself a pair, preferably male and female. But I did some research and read that Oscars don't have very distinguishable sexual dimorphisms. Is that true with your pair? Can you tell which is which? Please let me know. Thanks much.

i see.. so you mean that having 25+ live wrigglers for the second batch of spawning is normal? during the first two batches, i did an artificial hatching. will the third be succesful enough?

hi,

what i did was i bought about 7 juvies and let them grow together in a single tank. when they reach about 7-8 inches, the start to pair up. it is only then you can ditinguish the male and the female by venting them. venting means that you try too see under their stomachs beside the hole were their poo comes out their papilae or their sexual organs.

the male's organ would look like this:

tail -----v- ---- head

where the V is the male's organ
and the " " blank is the hole were the poo comes out

the female's organ would look like:

tailh ---U- -----head

where the U is the female's organ

Oh, I didn't know that. Very interesting. Thank you very much. I wish you luck on your Oscars and babies. I can asure you that you will be very proud of them. I'm breeding Blue Longfin Danios, and I have to admit that it gets very addictive and interesting to watch the babies grow. Only down side in my case is that the parents will eat their eggs and frys so I have to rear the eggs alone.

BUMP!

I want to hatch the eggs with the parents.. what are the extra things done if i want to hatch the eggs with the parents?
