HELP! POLYS SICK!!??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a start, you are waaay overloaded on fish for your tank.
Those filters you have running have absolutely no chance against the crazy overstocking of the tank.

As Tokyo says your probably overloaded with fish depending on the size of them, how big are the fish, are they all babies or ?
Can you post a tank shot to show the sizes, also as said before get an independent test done on your tanks, hope they pull through bud.

I have a eheim 2217 and a 2215. 159 and 93 gallon rated. So yes, i have more than enough filtration. I hope it is in fact ammonia burn.... But the pics i posted are from the 40 breeder with no high anything. Fungus meds have not worked. day 4 of meds. The melafix killed my clown from the 125 that i separated in a 10 gallon...

Dont look at the tank size rating look at the gph(gallons per hour) for a 125 u would need a min of 500 gph and that is for light stock like 1 or 2 polys u need more filtration to keep up with the fish that u have the minimal will not do for that stock.

Could e Bacterial infection, columnaris. Often confused with fungus.

Notice any red streaks on body or fins? Look in the mouth to see if any red inside.

Bacteria is gram negative, check out the fish disease and health section for more info.

If this is it,,,, very tough to treat...Good luck with the diagnosis and treatment.

I also forgot to mention I have crished coral in my filters to keep ph at 7.0. otherwise it stays at 6.0. May this be causing a problem? (the crushed coral). Am i overstocked? maybe yes, but im not parting with any fish.... the marbled achara is 7", endli 10", weeksii 7", albino 8", senegal 6", fire eel 11", florida gar 10", silver aro 14", palmas and lap polys 9", and ornate 6". only problem in this tank is cloudy eyes in a few fish and now ornate is shedding slime coat as of this morning... F***
tank is black sand, with plenty drift wood and 6 Large mossballs, i gravel vac every other day. And do 25% wwater change every 7-10 days

40 breeder with the "fungus" has 2 sens, 1 albino, a delhzi, goldust, hybrid, dragon goby, tire track, peacock and zig zag eel. All fish ate 6" or smaller. Most are smaller. running one eheim 2215 and many floating plants, ina bare bottom tank painted black underside, and drift wood. 25% water changes about every 7-10 days.

Purcshed a new bottle of water conditioner because i think my gallon that I was usuing may have been expired when i bought it (year of expiration was scratched off). Problems started soon after in both tanks.

if you're not parting with any fish, better add more filtration and also more water changes. its better to have too much filtration than too little.
the crushed coral should be good, since with your bio load, you might experience a ph crash without the crusahed corals.

It was API stress coat plus with the "aloe". Pretty sure all my troubles have been caused by the damn expired conditioner. i gave some to my friend to use in his 55gallon with a rope fish and 3 small eels and he lost his fire eel and now the ropefish is showing the same signs as mine did (loosing stress coat). What a waste of 40bucks.... Got a new smaller bottle and i did changes on all my tanks. The small polys in the 40 are looking better but my ornate in the 125 is looking like the ropefish did when they shed their slime coats...

I may be selling the marbled achara cat because hes too fast and kind of aggressive with the food for my polys. So thats one down.... If the ornate dies, thats 2 less fish (sadly). I have another eheim 2215 on a small angelfish tank (about 30 gallon tall) Im going to try to find a smaller canister filter for them and move that filter to the 125 to have 2 2215 and a 2217 on it. Also last night I i removed the amo chips and replaced it with even more eheim media balls in the 2217. As of now the 2217 only has the macaroni eheim media and the eheim balls, with a blue sponge and a fine white sponge. So the entire 2217 is a bio filter. The 2215 on the 125 has a hefty bag of carbon and the rest is filled with the same macaroni and ball media with 2 sponges.

As far as parting with any fish, any suggestions? My stock in 40 breeder and 125 is posted above somewhere
