Hi!
Can anyone help me sex my two juvenile JDs? The lower gillplate markings and body shape/fins might be indicating two females? I was hoping someone could prove me wrong here, as I am hoping for atleast one of them to be male.. The first 3 photos are of the smaller one, the last two is the bigger. Sorry for bad photo quality. Tell me if you need more/better photos and I will try.
Thanks in advance.12239375_10207087409495657_5919990769849555933_o.jpg 12240362_10207087409135648_3682553797184236101_o.jpg 12095170_10207087409215650_4819553184303044855_o.jpg 12239139_10207087409375654_2859140112128503447_o.jpg 12265559_10207087409455656_9004608061262592025_o.jpg

What's their total length? They look a wee bit too small to determine their sex.
The small guy is approximately 1,5 inches, and the "big" guy is around 2". I have been able to successfully sex JDs at the 2" range before, but maybe these ones need to grow some more. I think I read somewhere that they have become harder to sex in the last years, due do the massive inbreeding. Wether or not thats true I dont know.

Yeah a bit small to tell with these particular ones. I would hazard a guess for the first 2 pics and say female but the other could go either way. I think you might be right about them becoming harder to sex. I've seen some adults on various forums and FB groups that look like a mix of both male and female features.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll just have to wait and see, and hopefully they'll eventually show some gender specific characteristics as they grow, and not the undefinable male/female "hybrid" type.
