I made sock holders once from egg crate/lighting diffuser but another member had a better idea of making one with small diameter pvc pipe/elbows and drilling a ton of holes in the frame so it doesnt float. No need to glue just press fit.
Socks are soo much easier. What micron are you using ? I have my drains tee'd off so im using 4 socks it was a p.i.t.a having only 12 total. Picked up another 12 and just leave the dirty ones in a bucket. Once a month i throw em in the wash machine.
Op i wouldnt do a herbie unless you drill more drains. Having one siphon drain amd the single 1 inch emergency drain would end up being problematic.
I run dual herbies and you can definitely tee both stand pipes into one gate valve btw
I was thinking I could make a frame to hold these

Have both drains empty into it, have foam and polyfil below them, buy about 6 of em and swap em out as need be.
Thoughts
It would require changing sooner with both drains emptying into 1 sock. Id at the least split it into 2 socks, maybe 4 if there was enough room.
Compare prices to what mcmaster-carr sells them for. 6 bucks is cheap but you'll be pulling your hair out if you dont have a decent amount of clean ones on standby
So have the 2 drain pipes come into the sump, and then have a frame with 4 socks in it?
Thanks for you help on this and for your input on @DRteugelsi 's 180 Plumbing thread.
Got it, let me know if you get some how they work outNo prob man
No I’m saying each drain get it’s own sock. You could tee off each drain and create 4 drains but maybe be overkill. Also look into large socks 7 inch in diameter x 16 inches (I think) is allot of surface area and will last longer than say a 4 inch sock

I feel changing the filter socks alone and cleaning it is much easier than cleaning your media, sump tank and main tank more often.
My experience with 100 micron filter socks have been great. My sump tank and media remain clean without any residue even on the glass. I have 3 drains to sump and I change the socks weekly, and once in 2 weeks I put the dirty socks in washing machine to clean them and dry them out in air.
My socks setup look like:
