liz do you have planted tanks throw in some clipping it might eat them

i will do that..just tried some flakes too..watching him now.. try and find a little insects later and give more blood worms ..i would love to just add him to the plant and guppy tank but cannot do that since he may and probably does have parasites ..so want him in quarenteen for awhile.

right on liz. good save. 3-4 years ago my dad found a baby snapper, he was probably 2 inches long. because my parents didn't want another pet in the house, he stayed in a ten gallon tnak on the porch. he was really cool, but one morning he was gone, and his gravel was all messed up. i'm guessing that a raccoon got him:(. maybe it was for the best though, because there was no way i could keep an adult snapper at that age.

Thank you, my snapper is now going on 4 years old.. saved him when he was the size of a 50 cent piece...he eats arowana pellets and frozen krill and shrimp and squash .. he is about 12 inches across..today i am buying him a kiddy pool for the backyard.. so he can catch a few bugs and enjoy the real sun .. he is presently in a 75gal.. so this will give him alot more room until we set up something new..

Because that painted turtles is a hatchling, he will need a high protien diet. You can continue feeding him bloodworms along with small earthworms, aquatic insect larva, pinhead crickets, freeze-dried shrimp, shrimp pellets, tiny scraps of fish fillets and frozen shrimp along with Reptomin. Once he gets older he'll start excepting plant material but that won't be for a while.

wow Liz, i have never seen a turtle that tiny! lol he is so cute. has he eaten anything yet?

Thanks navygirl..cute as a button...:D

I finally saw him eat.... hamburger meat..a tiny little piece "raw".. but at least i know he ate something... hope it will be okay.. "at least to get him started...

Sounds good Liz. :) Remember to keep his water between 76-80 degrees. When he's older you can lower the water temperature some. Warm water will help him grow faster and digest food better.
