HELP! SNAIL PROBLEMS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can use salt to kill them..... but it would be better to pick them out of the tank and give them to me.

If you don't have live plants you can use 1 cup of salt for every 30 gal to treat ich and it kills snails

Tons of dead snails in a tank is worse than tons of live ones, in my opinion. They don't vacuum well being heavier... and it would foul up the water really quick. (That is, assuming the tank has gravel.) If it doesn't have gravel, you can just scoop them up, but if this were the case you could scoop the live ones up anyway...
It depends on what kind of snails, too. Some types will congregate on a piece of vegetable, which can then be taken out, others don't.
Some people also say loaches will eat 'em.

i work at an LFS and i scoo up 400-500 a week to bring home for my clown loaches. they will take care of your snails. also, copper additives work well

buy a clown loach...

The copper can cause problems for your fish and/or plants. Some LFS (at least the ones here in germany) have snail traps for like 8 bucks where you put a pleco wafer in it and it traps them in and you just remove them from the trap. I've been having a snail problem myself but with a 30 gal its easier to pick a few of them out every once in a while. I really wouldn't recommend the salt or copper though.

They sound like malaysian trumpet snails.
I have an easy solution.......Pick them out, put them in a ziplock bag with some water and send them to me. :D
Send me a message for my address!
