Help Stocking a 65?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I already have a few Pearl's but I really wanted a sa tank. I also wanted some breeders and bolivians are probably my best bet for that. Because the tank is 4ft by 1.5ft by 1.5ft and has 170 gallons worth of filtration and plants could I do one breeding pair of peruvian altums, a color variant of p scalare, and 4 to 6 bolivian rams and maybe 12 rummynoses and 6 lemon tetras? Open to other suggestions too. And I will be doing weekly 50 percent water changes. Also could I add an algae eater of some sort or maybe a bristle nose pleco?

You can buy 6 angels that you want, raise them up until you get a pair and re-home the remainders

go purchase two already pairs angels

then I would do 3 rams, 1M/2F, 1 BN pleco, then your 12 rummy, and 6 lemons

so 2 pairs of angels? a harem of bolivian rams 12 rummy and 6 lemon? and the bn?
I just the one pair of angels. My word go was supposed to be or***

so you’d have one pair of breeding angels in the tank.

sorry for my typo, it makes a difference

It's all good. What should my water change schedule be and should I go with 6 Bolivian rams or 6 biotodoma Cupido? Plant suggestions? But oh my the ram picture in your profile really is leaning towards gbr. Oh my, so many options I NEED more tanks. But should I go 6 Cupido, 6 Bolivian or 6 gbr? Also what is the actual capacity of my tank? 48 by 18 by 18.

No one will be able to tell you what your water change schedule should be. The o lot way to know how much water to change will be to test your water and conduct your water changes in accordance with your water parameter. Your water change schedule will change as your fish mature and put out more waste.

I don’t think you should do 6 of either of those species. I would only add 3 of either fish...I am not familiar with the cupido so I cannot comment on their personality.

if you want 6 Bolivian rams I would forgo the angels and leave them off your list.

that’s the problem with this hobby, you always need more tanks hahaha

your tank is considered a 65g tank. The tank volume calculator works it out to 67g but unless you have the tank filled to the brim it’s not holding 67g lol

Oh lol. Alright, so just the 2 angels 12 rummy nose, 6 lemon, a gold blue-eyed bn pleco, and the harem of Bolivians? Even with the four ft tank, I couldn't have maybe 2 males to 4 females and cut out the lemons? I saw a school of Bolivian rams on a youtube video and would love to recreate that. Probably saying no to the cupido as they require sand and arent very hardy. But on second thought, I wouldn't mind 4 but would I still have 2 bonded pairs and see some 'shoaling' behavior?

The down right crappy thing you quickly realize is a tank under 180g isnt really that big (even a 180g is t that big) which makes it easy to overstock

the more breeding pairs of fish you have in your tank the more aggression your going to see and it’s stressful to deal with when you have no where to move them. And you can quickly find your tank isn’t quite as enjoyable as you’d wish

and if you plan to raise fry you shouldn't have more than one breeding pair of fish in your tank.
