still my 2cents from the day i learned about asian arowanas " we are keeping them alive buy buying them how do they go extinct if we intend to house them" these things arnt cheap either. it will allowing aro farms to generate more money buy sellin to the US and better preserve these arowana by building bigger farms or more farms
 
I want one and would be willing to provide for every conceivable need the fish would have for its lifetime!

ok so your country does not allow import of endangered species under your wildlife acts..

this here shows that the species may be allowed to be imported into the US for captive breeding programs. ussually this would involve sourcing from the US but there are other permits obtainable to allow import or export.
lets not go down the its impossible to breed them pathway/debate.
i posted this for discussion on this clause in the law.

it would seem to me that there is an angle you could take to import the fish, breed them there and then sell those specimens in the USA legally.

something must be up though hey..surely you americans would have seen this???

i do not know why i have not seen this mentioned here before.
 
i just found out that france also has allowances for breeding domestically.
maybe these scenarios are not for conservation reasons but for industry/commerce.
it does seem strange how australia, USA and france and New Zealand all have a permit system in place for potential domestic breeding but none allow import for trade, all while no one can breed them commercially in ponds in these countries anyway.
it might be an oversight in that they may have formed these laws for conservation reasons.
