help! water gone mega cloudy (with video)!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also wonderedng if ive introduced some new bacterias and/or algae from that manky loft tank... every surface is slimed up. If so its come from a cold lightless environment to a warm light one and flourished. Just a thought, bacteria shouldnt slime everything up right, cleaned the glass last night then by this morning 10mm white strands on every surface!

So lame when this happens :(

My ph crashed to 5 , amonia 0.4 , nitrite 0.1 nitrate was like 35/40
I tested my water about ten days ago tester kit didn't work reading all wrong tank was fine (lesson learned always throw old kits away , just grabbed it out of cupboard like an idiot )
Got new kit after ray died to double check and they were readings :(

The FX thing not trying to clean it out properly so i dont ever have to open it , but basically flush it through once a week with w/c , my only worry so far is it mite flush to much good bio out if I keep doing it weekly , what you think ?
One pipe out bottom of FX to drain while switched off , one pipe in top of tank from mixer tap , I can get temp pretty much bang on

Yeah I wondered how long my test kit has been in the cupboard eek...

I would rather say dont flush it through with straight tap water now although a bit hypocritical as I cleaned my filter right out under the tap for years...

Wondered if all the floods and no doubt over flowing sewerage in the uk atm has forced the water companys to add loadsa added chlorine and stuff messing up our cycles?

Been reading up on brown sludge in water tanks and came across this, ive siphoned nutrient rich bacteria filled water straight into my aquarium!

Iron and manganese deposits will build up in pipelines, pressure tanks, water heaters, and water softeners. This reduces the available quantity and pressure of the water supply. Iron and manganese accumulations become an economic problem when water supply or water softening equipment must be replaced. There also are associated increases in energy costs from pumping water through constricted pipes or heating water with electric heating rods coated with iron or manganese mineral deposits.A problem that frequently results from iron or manganese in water is iron or manganese bacteria. These nonpathogenic (not health threatening) bacteria occur in soil, shallow aquifers, and some surface waters. The bacteria feed on iron and manganese in water. These bacteria form red-brown (iron) or black-brown (manganese) slime, often detected in toilet tanks, and can clog water systems.

Potential Health Effects

Iron and manganese in drinking water are not considered health hazards. In addition, iron and manganese bacteria are not known to present a health risk.

I'm not thinking flush it through with tap water I'm thinking siphon water out the tank through fx out the bottom while its switched off , then top tank up from tap with another hose , basically tank level will stay same but fx will be flushed out with tank water once a week , keeping the bio safe from clean tap water

Mite be worth us testing our tap water later see what it reads , tbf last time I did mine it wasn't too bad comes straight from lake district to manc , but with all the mad weather like ya say who knows

Will the LFS not house any of your fish while ya sort it out mate ???? Any tanks you could borrow perhaps ???? Just an idea

mine tests ok... just hope my cycle sorts itself out soon...

i doubt the lfs will help besides i have to go to work tomorrow now!-( i had a 5x2x2 in my garage a few weeks ago but i sold it, anyhow that would need cycling...

if most of the bb lives in the filter and on the surfaces would large daily waterchanges with prime cause any ill effects?

retested

ammonia at 0.25mg/l
ph 8-8.5
nitrites at 0.3 mg/l
nitrates 0

definitely seem to be going through a cycle of some sort then... think im gonna water change again then throw some ornaments and media from my 35 in like evz said, any objections to this?
