me or the hedgehog? lol

You. I dont think people realize how much it sucks to dig a hole. Ya think, "oh yeah, I'll just grab my shovel and start digging." Then, 3 wheelbarrows later, you've bearly gotten anywhere. You know what I'm talkin' about.
I solute you..

Sucks about the hedgehog though.

yeah I gave up on wheel barrowing a while ago, this is why you'll notice on any pics I post up of my pond that the edges are raised. lazy? sure but if i use it as fill around the pond I don't have to take it anywhere which halves my work.

but my trusty pic and shovel seem to work through the cla quite effectively so ong as te sun isn't beating down on me it's not so bad. trouble is finding enough consecutive time. My daughter is 5 months old and my wife is currently sick, so digging is at nap time. babay monitor is abit dirty now lol.

Its so funny how everyone on here is all omg ask your gf/wife first.

I have to ask my fiancee to do anything haha. But me asking him, is more like telling him what I'm doing.

Make that pond huge!

Thats cheating! If my gf asked if she could build a pond I'd go dig it for her. lol

Good luck on the build.

After taking out the 2 liners I found a nice little hedgehog sized hole leading back to a tunnel which enters a series of tunnels throughout my lawn.
i heard this story before...
this guy had the same problem:

yay for long delays in updates. We As you can imagine I havent finished the redig yet. I ran into a slew of things that have taken my time form digging

my intex sprung a leak and I had to fill it a foot a day which was going fine until we went on vacation. I hooked the hose to the timer and had it set to fill it up. I came back to a half empty intex pond with no water movement. Apparently the pump impeller shaft broke and the hose fell out of the pond.

so I quickly relaized that all my spare pumps were in use and long story short I could not restore flow in time to save my fish. So 10 koi ranging from 6" to 14" gone. I have to say I'm a little more than bummed about it.

So now the intex is drained and I'm working double ahrd to get the pond done by spring.

My dad is a superintentdant for a roofing company and is taking care of the liner (45mil epdm) as well as the rock. So it's just up to me for the digging. I'm about half the way there so a little more effort should do it.

then it's the pump to worry about. I've been able to replace the impeller shaft on the 2000gph I had running, my 3150gph was "borrowed" by a freind and I don't plan on seeing it again unfortunately. And the 450 gph I had on the 18w uv died.

So I'm in the market for a new pump. The 2000gph will act as a backup as well as powering the heater. The main pond will be ~6750 gallons with the filter box being 500 gallons and the sub pond being ~ 1500 gallons. So i'm aiming at 1x tunrover for the main pond including the 2000gph. (being sperate chambers each, the turnover is different). So somewhere in the range of 5k is what I'm looking for.

has anyone used cal pumps before?

Buddy of mine uses Cal pumps on everything (pond and sumps). He has no problems with them. I don't use them because it is easier for me to return my NurseryPro pump(s) to the wholesaler I bought them from if something happens to them.

warranty is nice also.

so the ond is dug and ready for new base plubming to go in before we put in the chickenwire.

last pic shows teh hedgehog/mole/whatever trying to break through our progress *shakes fist at it*

at any rate we're going with 2" mortar instead of concrete because apparently it's easier to spread. Once the mortar is in we'll go with a 45mil epdm liner.

trying to go for a pond this size on the cheap hasn't worked out so I took christmas and birthday to get my dad to help out instead of presents.

the digout of the secondary won't happen this time due to expense and time, we're already factoring 90bags of mortar as it is.

we toook the excess dirt and made a garden in the northwest corner of the yard, we had to something with it lol. bell peppers, tomatoes, and jelepenos so far.

all in all it's been a while but were actually going to make progress now. with the diging done it's only the mortaring that's the real time consumer.

hope you're all doing well.
