Help with Armatus: slime coat or something else?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am cheering for him. He looks really bad, but I hope he pulls through. good luck!

Yeah. To be honest, no one on earth it seems can tell me what this stuff is supposed to look like. It seems no one has experienced skin doing this before, and no one can tell me skin being pink after being white is good or not.

All I know is that I have not touched the salt meds or anything, except to take out 25% of the water for a water change, and this is what's been naturally occurring. The white layer has almost completely sloughed its way off, and it looks like the tissue underneath is healing.

When my caribe piranha busted his lower jaw on some wood in my tank, he got a white chimple on the wound, which later turned pink (Like the armatus' back), and then healed up right after that with no scar. let's hope that's the process here. I just wish for the love of god I could get some answers on healing processes of fish.

Also, I threw in one of those vitamin pyramids that dissolves just because I figured it couldn't hurt.

looks like its healing to me. with an armatus never use any meds. ive lost alot of payara when experimenting with meds. salt only.

as long as he is still eating, he will be fine. (if he stops, then panic)

their scales are very delicate, so try not to handle unless necessary.

with the step ur at now, i would do about a 15% water change every day until it has progressed nicely. theyre very tough so he should be fine.

Thanks for the advice, you've probably had these fish as long as anyone here, so I won't just take the advice with a grain of salt. Now I'm glad I stayed away from meds.

I figured it was healing, but I just wasn't too sure. I'd never experienced anything like this before. It's just hard to think back and think that this was caused by me simply gripping him in my hand so he wouldn't slip out. He was just so damn strong. Either way, it looks to me as if some healing is going on, so we'll see.

i had to take mine out when he was about 15'' to try to get a fish lice off. it was a mess and took him weeks to heal. hang in there it just takes time. GL

I think he is healing. Still eating I presume? How much?

Characins have an AMAZING healing ability. Hopefully he wont even have a scar.

I know their scales are delicate but Im really surprised as to how much damage was actually caused.

I would still add some salt, we had one jump out of the tank once and same exact thing happened to the skin. I hate to say that one did not make it, Is it still eating?
