hi everyone. so i decided i wanted to add some dither fish to my cichlid grow out tank but am having trouble figuring out what to get. i tried a group of Buenos Aires Tetras but within 10 minutes 3 didn't have tails left and the others were hiding. in the tank i have a EBJD, JD, GT, Texas, and a firemouth. all are between 2-3 inches except the EBJD is about 4 inches. anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a good fit?

how big is the tank?

i thought about going with silver dollars but was trying for something with a little more color lol i know a lot of ppl go with silver dollars as well as tinfoil barbs, but i don't have the tank space yet to house a tinfoil for life even tho they do have a little more color than the silver dollars do

they are in a 90 gal right now, i had them in a 55 but since i want to add the dithers i moved them into the 90 so they would have plenty of room. as i said all the cichlids are still pretty small (2-3 inches)

Oh yeah....good question. :D

My spotted silver dollars have more color than any tinfoil barb or the buenos aires tetras you first tried. And they max out at about 4-5" so you could keep some in your 90g tank. They're awesome fish but it might be tough for you to find them though.

ya as i said before i thought about going with silver dollars but my lfs didn't have any at all. thats why i went with something a little more colorful. doesn't sound like a bad idea, might have to do some searching to see if i can find any. i have never done the tropical type fish before so don't know much about them, went straight to cichlids when i got my first tank lol

Big fish eat small fish .

Personally I don't think cichlids need dither fish and they just because an expenses food for your fish. I have tried a few differant kinds and nine ever last. My blue acara was the one that did most the killing and she is only 5".

Silver dollars would be your best bet but they need to be in a school in order to feel safe and swim around. A school of 5 5" fish with the large cichlids would be over stocked.

IME dithers are never worth it. Unless you have a huge tank 200+ .
