In a drip system, is a water conditioner really necessary? Iv read a few threads where it doesnt matter as it get diluted with the massive amounts of water already treated.
I think it depends on how your water company treats the water, like how much chlorine/chloramines are used. I use it just to be on the safe side, as some companies are said to increase the levels of chlorine unannounced.

This is very true, plus chloramines don't go away.

Rule #2...Fish First.

I drip chloramine water into tanks directly with no ill effects if the weekly water change ratio is low. On higher percentage water changes - ie growout - I use a carbon filter to remove chloramines. As long as the flow rate is slow or the carbon filter size is large (extended contact time) carbon filters do a great job with chloramine removal. Do a google on this if your worried.

Follow the flow :D

1) http://www.rainbird.com/drip/products/control/inline_reg.htm Place regulator before filter to enhance dwell time (25-30psi will still go thro the filter).

2) http://www.pwgazette.com/gardenhosefilters.htm w/carbon filter (place these two close to water supply line and in the open should it develop a leak).

3) http://www.rainbird.com/drip/products/distribution/xeri-tube700.htm

4) http://www.rainbird.com/drip/products/distribution/easyfit.htm

5) http://www.rainbird.com/drip/products/distribution/1q_dist_tube.htm

6) http://www.rainbird.com/drip/products/emission/xeri-bug.htm pick your drip rate (you may have to change this in the summer to compensate for evaporation). For high drip rates (more than you would use) one of the spray attachments will help aerate the water also.

7) Drip into water return

That's pretty much it and it can be completely hidden (prudent use of a french drain for the overflow and no one will know how you keep it full).

main thing was i never understood an irrigation setup
you bogged me out with links lol :grinno:
i dont want to spend much money so the filter is out, very nice tho if i had $ :D

so i go to lowes,or place like it
get the piece that screws on the faucet, that is a regulator that makes it the gph i want?
then get hose
then get a drip fittting for the end
is this about right?

and what about aqua safe
one guy mentioned it might not do anything
water dripping all day then by the time the aqua safe drips the new water is already blended in the pond.
am i way off?lol

To make it easy get a garden drip line, hook it up to the spigot and your done.

No, I tried to explain with pictures so you wouldn't get confused :nilly:.

You get the regulator that hooks onto the faucet to reduce the water pressure so that the rest of the system doesn't blow out, overflowing the pond with toxic chlorinated water and killing all the fish, flooding you and possibly your neighbors yards and having your landlord kick you out for damages incurred.

Then you hook up a potable water hose to the regulator and out to the pond where you install the drip fitting with the GPH rating that you want to use.

I paid $15 for the last filter (cartridge) case I bought (3 mo's ago) form HD and $5 ea for the carbon filters.

Did you ever call the water company there and find out what they're using to treat the water with?

This is why I say to drip it into the water return (both).

And I refer to my previous statement (post # 12).

The forgotten Google link... http://www.google.com/search?client...nel=s&hl=en&q=french+drain&btnG=Google+Search

Clearer yet?

Oops sorry dr, I am on well water. I keep forgetting not everyone can put a hose in and go.

Do a drip system WITH a drip prime :) better? haha
