help with my dvd burner

I have downloaded multiple firmware updates for this and it keeps telling me that the firmware is not compatible with this drive.
 
oddly enough, when the disc begins to "burn" dvd's the dvd spins cuz i can hear it spionning, but the light does not flash. it flashes when burning cd-r's though
 
I had a drive that stopped burning dvdr's but kept burning cd-r's for a while until it just completly died..but with mine it wouldn't even read DVDr's or dvds so it may not be the same problem...Didn't read the whole thread so I'm not sure how old the burner is or how often you use it, but it could just be slowly going down hill.
 
its odd that you could burn the same disc before as to me it sounds like that brand dvd disc isnt supported by the drive.

i know, you would think so, but it is supposed to support dvd-r, has burned both a data and a movie dvd-r, and it would shock me if they overlooked making a brand like SONY compatible for the media
