HELP!!

but still high in nitrites?
 
yeah at first i thought it was my test kit but i have 2 different test kits reading the same maby they are both bad i am thinking that i should take the water in to get tested at the lfs and do you know if they charge for that
 
I wouldnt tear the tank down either - you would just stress the fish, and theres a little bit of BB living in your substrate, and removing it now would be a bad idea. Id just keep up with water changes to keep the levels low enough to keep the fish alive, and hope the cycle kicks in soon. Good luck.

wouldn't it stress the fish if you do water changes 2 times a day everyday for a week? the bigger filter was a good idea. IMO take all the substrate out to do a control test of the water to see the lowest posabble factor, and try to find the problem.
 
You have probably already checked and cleaned it. But if if your filter is full of waste food or fish waste you might never be able to do enough water changes.
 
all the media in the big filter is brand new just bought so that isnt likely to be the problem and from the what i have been reading (please let me know if i am wrong lol sill new but) i am in the late stages of the cycling process where the nitrite is spiking, no ammonia and starting to se nitrates at about 15 ppm so i think i will continue with smaller water changes every few days and hope to se the nitrites levels drop because right now they are not getting any higher and nitrates are increasing slowly.
 
no havent been using prime but i keep hearing about it so i think today i may just get some, i really hate dumping chems into the tank (besides dechlorinator) but if it helps then i will do it.
