Help!!!!

get a good filter and a undergravel filter. keep feeding to a normal amount and not over feed. do regular water changes weekly at least monthly. clean gravel every once in a while. you will get a routine and pretty easy to do.... :D

Yes smaller tanks are much harder to maintain then big ones. One neon dieing in a 55 won't do much but can easily bring down a 10 gallon if you don't find it immediately.

Haven't had much luck with these tend to require more maintenance than any other filter, though much cheaper to set up and when working work well. Go with a good canister filter easier to service.
