I have a back up female in my area just incase. She's in the process of spawning with one of the hybrid males (her off spring). She is the one that killed my male Frempongi.
I wish it was that easy. At .75 to 1" these guys just start killing each other off at an astonishing rate. Probably around 6-8 fry a day die to aggression. Once you take the aggressive one out, another rises to the occasion. Absolutely insane! The only way to raise these guys is 1 fish per tank. I simply do not have enough tanks to raise these guys. I have 3 in a 50g breeder right now from my last batch. 2 are pinned I to corners getting ready to die
Sounds brutal, I guess they need a pond type setting to really grow out well. If you have a group that makes it and can ship I'd be interested in some.
Update: bond broke from this pair. Tried my hardest to get the to pair back up. Female was whoopin my males but regardless of the scenery, tried moving them to my 180, with a 10" RD, 7-8" Dovii, 7" butterkoferi, female had all fish pinned within 2min.
Decided to trade my buddy male WC male for my hybrid male (mom = WC Hemichromis Fasciatus, dad = WC Hemichromis Frempongi) back, hybrid put a whoopin on my female. I haven't seen this chick get beat up for a long time. Here's a quick vid.
