Oh wow!
First off I want to say congrats on getting her (almost) healthy again
.
I had an extremely similar experience with my female ray as well! I got her about a month ago, she had a ditch between her eyes and the bones sticking out at the start of her tail. Kinda looked like this: <|> “|” being the tail. I didn’t have high hopes mainly because she wasn’t eating. Or rather, she’d try to eat but would give up and spit everything out. The male BD I have is a super aggressive eater so he would literally chase her out of the way and eat the food meant for her. And unfortunately I don’t have a spare tank to separate them out. So I spent a Lot of time everyday feeding her chopped earthworms and keeping the male BD away by using My feeding tongs as a guard for the female lol. It was hard for her to eat earthworms that are over 1” initially. And man it was super tiring protecting her from the male when she’s eating (she was a super slow eater at first). I didn’t have to use any antibiotics to get her healthy luckily. I have my tanks at 78. So I just added salt and upped the temp to 85 over a span of a week. So over the next week she was able to eat bigger and bigger pieces of earthworms. And and tilapia too. Her tail bones went from looking like <> to () and now are comfortably hidden
. I can’t say that she’s nice and fat yet, she still has some ways to go before that but she definitely doesn’t look anorexic anymore. And more importantly, she can hold her own when the male BD tries to take food from her.
