Her hips don’t lie

Oh wow!
First off I want to say congrats on getting her (almost) healthy again :).

I had an extremely similar experience with my female ray as well! I got her about a month ago, she had a ditch between her eyes and the bones sticking out at the start of her tail. Kinda looked like this: <|> “|” being the tail. I didn’t have high hopes mainly because she wasn’t eating. Or rather, she’d try to eat but would give up and spit everything out. The male BD I have is a super aggressive eater so he would literally chase her out of the way and eat the food meant for her. And unfortunately I don’t have a spare tank to separate them out. So I spent a Lot of time everyday feeding her chopped earthworms and keeping the male BD away by using My feeding tongs as a guard for the female lol. It was hard for her to eat earthworms that are over 1” initially. And man it was super tiring protecting her from the male when she’s eating (she was a super slow eater at first). I didn’t have to use any antibiotics to get her healthy luckily. I have my tanks at 78. So I just added salt and upped the temp to 85 over a span of a week. So over the next week she was able to eat bigger and bigger pieces of earthworms. And and tilapia too. Her tail bones went from looking like <> to () and now are comfortably hidden :). I can’t say that she’s nice and fat yet, she still has some ways to go before that but she definitely doesn’t look anorexic anymore. And more importantly, she can hold her own when the male BD tries to take food from her.

My flag tail kept sucking on my Ray till it got injured... so I sold him away

You may want to take note of that
Very good point. I went to visit a friend today and his motoro was nearly "bald" on top from the flagtail sucking on it. He thinks it's fine and lets it do that for whatever reason.

I’m not really concerned about this one sucking the rays. I’ve had it for almost a year and it has been well behaved. I even had it with 1-2 oth ft’s and that is typically a no no because they will pick on each other. But they all seemed to get along for the most part.

I watch them like a hawk, so if anything messes with my rays they go away end of story. I often spend 2-3 hrs a day in front of this tank (to my wife’s chagrin) so I would usually notice any damage to them.

I am noticing the differences each day in the patterns developing. It’s neat to see so early in their development.

I've just seen my flagtail start to suck on my big female BD. God damn, I'm so pissed and sad. Had this flagtail from when he was as little as 4¨... and until now, around 13¨, he never did it... but now that he started I think I'll sell him to a friend who doesn't have rays.

Be careful mate, because mine was like yours. Totally well behaved, always, never showed any interest for the rays...

Thank you. Seems like that is the common theme with fts. Right around 1’ mark they often start sucking on rays. Seems like once they get a taste they don’t stop either.

sorry for your guys luck with the ft.

like I said , I will be keeping an eye on it all. The ft can be re homed if needed. But for now it’s part of my clean up crew

And in other news regarding the ray- she is eating well with out tweezers. Lots of shrimp, some of which I stuff with pellets, pellets on their own, mysis shrimp, blood worms, red wigglers.

she’s becoming more of an aggressive eater toward the frozen shrimp but not super aggressive toward pellets yet. But she casually is eating pellets here and there.
