Yes. Want to be sure to have right amount. Plus the information varies and they all talk about little fish. I figure my guy is big and hardy and not ready. I will need to combine techniques. When they tell you one thing wrong they lose my trust. For me a wrong thing is freezing but I am not sure. Some fish spend a lot of time under ice. They may even freeze and then thaw out - alive for another season. The baking soda method told by the LFS - not enough information so far.

Too much unknown. I think that fish have taught me that they are quite hardy and in the wild can tolerate much that they cannot tolerate in a tank - especially temperature changes. They only seem to be dead when actually frozen - what happens when they thaw?
Yes. Will probably be another week or two. I need to be richer & he needs to be weaker. Some say vodka also. Then a sharp knife to be sure. Just removing him from the tank will show that he is far from ready I already know. He is still communicating and trying and still quite hefty. I don't want to ruin everything in the tank. When I go to the Chinese market I always see some food fish swimming around that I wanna save but it's not going to be me.
Sorry if that last was offensive - it's just the way I feel when I see them. Not a critter hoarder.
I like the combo of clove and alkazeltser(sp) clove puts them sleepy time so its first, then drop in a few of the seltzer, it displaces the oxygen in the water and death pretty quick. Other than that blunt force trauma behind the head enof to separate the skull from the spine. brutal but effective.
