Oh man, I love ferrets, I have two. Just to give a bit of info from what I've learnt... The best food that you can feed them is Evo Ferret food. It's incredible. I rescued two ferrets, one had cancer/surgery, was losing hair and had no energy; one week of Evo food and and she was gaining hair and had incredible energy.

Ferrets are so cute!! Thanks for sharing!

well some people think that they are smelly "weasels" that bite all them time, but yeah as long as these guys are raised right and taught not to bite then they make GREAT pets, GOOD LUCK with them!! they are like little kittens who never grow up:)
People this days dont have much to do in their stinking lifes, so they have to come to bug nextdoors pet:grinno: go figure

I was turned away from two rescue organizations because of my son's age. When doing my research there was a lot of negative comments of forewarning, I became afraid of my own apartment being a ferret death trap. I think what it basically comes down to is that there many people who should not own a pet of any type, they are the people who buy something because its cute, cool, etc think that the pet is there only for their own enjoyment ... period, and because of those few bad apples the fanatics try to steer people away so that more ferrets do not end up abused and abandoned. I'll be honest that reason I never got one before is due to their smell, they do have a smell, but so does my son most times and he's my best friend and I love him to pieces.

I'm feeding them a mix of evo, 8 in 1 ultimate soft, and marshalls (this is what the rescue was feeding, I'm going to try to wean them off of it)

Thanks for everyone replies. If anyone else has some pictures to share, I would love to see them.

yea sometimes i feel that some rescue organizations hinder themselves from finding great homes for their animals because their rules are so strict. i mean i understand they want to make sure the animals dont end back up in a bad home but i think its more about common sense. yes some young children would be too rough and have parents that wouldnt supervise and so would be bad for that home but others would be totally loving and have parents that actually watch them so they should pay more attention to the individual family and not automatically say no because someone doesnt fit their list of requirements. but yeah they do have a little bit of an odor (the ones that havent had their gland removed have really bad odor) but i dont think its too bad and as long as you keep everything clean its not like its a smell thats going to make your whole place stink

^ I agree, I was going through the process of adopting a parrot about a year ago, and I gave up after all of the denials, my son's age and the fact that I have a full time job made me a no consideration.

yeah see, they totally turn away people that would give good homes to the animal, theres tons of people that work full time and still have perfectly happy parrots but oh well, youv got your little trouble making pair now to keep you busy lol

You can keep parrots under thouse circunstances quite sucessfully if you build a small aviary and keep more then one parrot of the same species (wich if you ask me its the only way people should keep parrots, they are social birds and they need other parrots to interact with, they wouldnt be so tame as a individual bird but if you need to go away they wont go neurotic and start pulling feathers)

Here are my girls:
The white one is the senior one, she had cancer, and has gone through surgery. Her name is Trix.
The black and white one is a lil hell-raiser named Pepper

I have a small parrot who is (according to the vet) extremely healthy. She's perfectly happy and has never even come close to being a feather picker. And I have a full time job which often brings in a lot of overtime. She still gets out 2+ hours a day.
