No, the literature is not perfect. No, not all the employees are as knowledgeable as some of you "experts". No, it's not a perfect world. But guess what? It's called "Pets"mart, not "Fish"mart. Most of those people you take delight in bashing are hard working, dedicated animal lovers. But for what they get paid, they are supposed to be an expert in every type of animal carried, not just fish. I wish some of you "experts" could work in one for a couple of weeks. About 50% of the people are just setting up a first tank and don't know anything. Maybe half of them are willing to listen to advice. About 10% are actually experienced keepers. Those are the few joys. The rest are self proclaimed experts (like some people on this thread) who won't listen to anyone because they already know it all. Spend some time listening to things like, "I guess I could step up my w/c schedule to once a month." "My fish all died because you sold me a bad plant, it's not my tank because I've been keeping them for years. Six three inch fancy goldfish and two cary cats are fine in a 10 gallon, it doesn't exceed the ONE FISH PER GALLON RULE.Listen to this crap day in and day out and see how long it takes you to either walk away or not try so hard everytime. You ought to try giving that kid in there a little slack, chances are he is doing his best. And if you still feel the need to flame Petsmart, Petco, etc., do yourself and us a favor. Stay the hell out. If it's so bad why do you keep going back and aggravating yourself and annoying the worker. Rant over

If you hate your crappy low paying job so much, do something about it. Quit pissing and moaning over stupid customers and maybe go to school, further your education and do something with your life. It's never too late buddy, you don't have to work at Petsmart forever. In the meantime if they're dishing out bad advice, they're going to get picked on and that's how the world works. It's not always fair, get used to it.

You may be the exception to the rule, key word being MAY. But the fact is, these other posts do reflect the "chain store" phenomenon. Low pay, so low initiative, no experience, little to no training except in how to take money, and employees more interested in texting on their cellphones or talking to other employees than helping "customers". Know it alls or not, they are still the customer. If you can't deal with it every day, find another job.

Never said my job was low paying or completely crappy. What I was "pissing and moaning" about was idiot know it alls who apparently are too stupid to have read the actual post and comprehend what was written. Perhaps you should return to school for some remedial courses and possible brain transplant.

Hmmm....Seems like we have some pretty big pedestals here.

Anyone getting nose bleeds?

If we were all locked in a room and were not allowed out until we made a new pamphlet, the new perfected pamphlet would get bashed by someone else. Everything (and everyone) has its critics and you can't please all of the people all of the time. (I guarantee you that other websites will not agree with information that is the norm here.)

I was just at the local Petsmart last night.
A "customer" saw Pacus for $3.99. Thought they looked like cute little Piranha, were cheap, and was someone who obiviously was not a know it all.:nilly:
The empolyee told this person that they could put three in a 29g easily.
I'm by no means an "expert", but a simple quick search on Pacu tells me they are only for the biggest "monsterest" of tanks.
Seems the employees could also do this "simple" quick search, and save giving out bad advice to someone who knows no better.
Bad advice from employees tends to piss off people who find out differently later. That's when the flaming starts.
"Word of mouth" can be your best friend or worst enemy.

The fact that the chain stores even SELL pacu at all is just ridiculous. I'd guess that <1% of fishkeepers even own a tank big enough to house a single pacu, and I'd further guess that <1% of those keepers do their fish shopping at the chains. The care tag on the tank says they can live in a 30G...a pacu will outgrow that in what, 3 months?

That's the problem. They sell 'em for the $$$, don't care about the animal's welfare, advertise them to sell (small cute fish, cheap price, and small inexpensive tanks.), and don't train the employees otherwise (that would cost a sale).
The fact that dragonfish defends employees who obviously don't know, or don't care, is as ridiculous as him slamming the "know it all" customer.
He may be the exception as stated earlier, but not the norm.

Ridiculous is the morons who can't read. I never defended untrained or uncaring employees. I said try being them for a while and see how long you kept up the solid advice to every single person, particularly people like yourselves who would come in and not listen to you because they know better. If you want to make a change for the good, try doing something helpful instead of acting like a bigshot *****in' about it from your computer screen. But then that would mean actually doing something, and proving that you actually have any knowledge. And exactly who will make the determination as to which knowledge is acceptable. There are a number of tanks on here that are very overstocked by any normal standards. But you will say that they look good and the owner is all that because he obviously has the ability to stuff as many fish into a tank as possible. A tank such as this lasting any appreciable time is the exception, not the rule.

I dont think the employees are that stupid, but "THEY" cant tell the truth, or no one would buy them.
