Here's why you SHOULD buy that cute little RTC at your LFS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well...I think the answer in principle is simple....EDUCATION....

its not about RTC or tsn or PImas.........it would be helpful if fish keepers were interested enough to learn and lfs would educate.........:)

oh well back to reality..........:(

lol, you had to throw in the pimas huh? I think some people just have fish envy. Like me I envy john's pimas lol. I think he's right though it boils down to the fact we wouldn't have these discussions if everyone were more educated fish keepers. Problem is that not everyone cares weather or not they are keeping them in a large enough environment. Most of your average keepers are first time buyers who are happy if their fish make it past the first two months, mainly because they know nothing about fishkeeping. They are willing to accept anything that the lfs is telling them. I don't think there's much we can do about keeping this fish out of the hobby, but if there is an environmental concern we should do everything possible to make sure that the fish we buy come from farm produced fish and not wild caught ones. Until we understand more about breeding them this may not be possible. It's just another possibility in my mind. If permits are impracticle and make fish keepers criminals because they have to find they fish they want on the black market, why not start up a fish farm for the aquarium trade for rtc here in north america and other countries. It's the only real way to be sure our fish are not taken from the environment. Let me know what ytou guys think.

i wont buy one just for the fact that they are 50$ for a little 1.5"er, rediculas
yes heres the big problem people who don't have big tanks and don't know about fish won't want to spend alot of money and want to buy cheap fish i to do that and have lots of tanks RTC cats are a little pricey $50 ain't to bad (compared to plecos and aros there cheap)but people like the cheap ones the ones under $10 so we should pay attention to fish like (pacu, iridescent shraks, clown knifes, gars, bichirs, big cichlids) which are all very miss understood all of those i've seen at petsmart and walmart where people don't know or don't have to know proper care when they get a job there

thats why i'm trying to get a job at petsmart i hope that because i probly know more then all of the people that work there but i really hope my boss will Let me tell people the right advise ATTENTION: just wan't to know if any body here has gotten trouble for disagreeing with those little tags they put on fish tanks that are supposed to tell you about the fish

okay know about RTC and TSN i find them to be a little harder to find then the fish listed above but any common store just for fish will probly have them (I'VE just never seen one at petsmart or a place like that)and of course they cost more then normal fish but people still buy them so i think we shouldn't BAN them but have permits to keep them and other large fish YES there WILL be a black market type setting but there never won't be people who can go throw the trouble of setting up a pond or giant tank that takes up half there basement won't mind makeing a few phone calls and for people who do it illegally there obviously will be consquences or it wouldn't matter that any thing was legal or knot but all of this is a little much right

SO the eazyist and most affective solution is education for people who sell the fish they should have to know about fish to get the job and knot go to petsmart thinking your going to work with cats and dogs and find out your in the fish department and if you do work there any fish that get huge you should all ways tell the person thats buying it sometimes its not hard like when a mom walks in with her little boy and wan't a pacu and want's to know if it would go good with a gold fish or it can be hard to tell wether you need to tell someone like if a seemingly rich guy walks in to buy an aro and looks like he can care for it (but secretly he only has a 55 gallon tank)

BUT WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN
it means if your reading this you probly know that some fish get huge and you should make sure that A.you give the right info to the people you sell fish to or B. you make sure that people know what there selling yes sometimes people won't listen or act like they know what there talkin about cause they work at petsmat ( don't cha know ) but in this cause tell there boss knot them but even still they may not listen but o well this will allways be a problem

catch it and keep it or put it out of it's misery. Where was it located? Hopefully not florida or south texas, unless it's a private pond that doesn't connect to a water drainage.

I could put mine in a lake and the news would read " small child eaten by RTC.
LOL!!!!!

I got mine when it was 1 1/2 inches for 19.99, and their 3" ones were 27 there I think. Mine grew pretty fast, one month after he was already 6"
