I dont think so. And im not talking about just mine. I think the Vontehillo blows the other carpintis out of the water, but thats a matter of opinion. I think if you like color on your fish, you like this variant more.

But does any one know anything about this variant other than it comes from Vontehillo and Ira sells em.
How come no one else really had them until now? Is it new? If so I just have not seen any articles on a new carpintis. Did every one know about these forever and im just hearing about it now?

Uh, oh...... Don't start THAT discussion! :naughty:

Its just a discussion on which variant you like better, nothing wrong with that. Anyone can state that they like the another kind here. But it is kind of a derail. Im trying to find more info on them, or why no one has really mentioned them before. Lots of people collect herichthys and I just thought these super fish keepers would have had these for a while now if these are not so new.

Sort of an inside joke. You must have missed those threads..... Lucky for you!

I've seen them on Conkel's list for a while, those and a couple of other variant, but I never really gave them much thought. I always thought the Escons were the best looking race......having second thoughts now!

I have an Escondido already.. Or else I'd be on the hunt for a couple of these. Really nice..

John Rambo. Is it ok with you if I post my Escondido up for comparison?

And if you curious about your fish, here's what I think.. I think it the same as any other Carpintes :) They pretty much look like and are the same type of fish.. You just happen to have a Carpinte from Vontehillo. Different in looks a small bit but I dont think anything else's changed from them being Carpintes.

I bought 4 carpintes from the lfs and they look different and really strong and shiny with deep turquoise colorings. I think nicer then another would depend on the quality of the batch too..

But Carpinte will be Carpintes.. I dont think anything's changed about them except for the new location for a bit of a new taste in looks..
Or can they be Escondido x with another Carpinte Variant? Pearls are comparable to Escondidos.

Ira might have better info, but it seems Don Conkel is collecting in both new Mexican locations as well as locations that haven't been collected in decades ... both good news for the hobby.

You are welcome to post a pic of your escondidos. I have a huge pair (male 9-10") of escondidos ill post as well. The difference in appearance between the different locations I think is noticable. I can spot the diff between chariel and escondido as i can spot the difference between vontehillo and the rest. There are threads featuring all variants and their differing pearls, but what Im getting at is this vontehillo variant has not been campared or mentioned. Usually its a big deal if a new location variant is found yet I cant find any thing.
