Hey Cichla experts...what is this??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's 100% cross OrinoxTem. Why can't it happen? I am sure as the years pass we will see even more amazing mix's coming from the wild. Of course it will be something we have never seen before but it will be a mix of one of the many sp in these canal's and drainage from the river systems. I do believe the first pic is a MonoxOrino. Of course I have alway's looked for crosses from the wild only because the dynamics of the flooding and destruction of some of the natural river systems. And I do believe those mixes are what brought us Kels and Fogo and what sparked my intrest in my line of thought PINIMA. Just some food for thought.

i'm sure naturally occurring hybrids are possible, but it seems like everybody dismisses this idea when a weird looking cichla pops up. i guess this makes sense when you see a large batch of them, but when it's just 1 fish, like in this case, i think hybrid makes the most sense. i'm gonna have to add this one to my 'oddball' thread

I like the Tem x Orino mix as well for the first one just because of the cheek marking's. Gotta love evolution.

We need to have Wes, John, or Jeff bring in some of those orino x temensis...:naughty:

Then whats the point of even trying to ID this fish or any fish then? Most of the people have no clue to what this bass is, so, they (me to) look online to fine the closest ID to the fish that needs ID'ing...yes? Just because you say it's a tem does it make it true?
I say it's a temensis because it IS. Just open your eyes and look at the characteristics, vertical BARS, red on lower portion of caudal fin, insane cheeck speckling, head shape, and countless other features that temensis show.

Now on the fish that J posted, I most definitely am going to go with
tem x orino.

The fish on page one is really beautiful, too bad we can't see a shot of it in water in a display container.

My eyes are open. Just because you say that the fish IS A Tem doesn't make them a tem. I tend to believe the people that actually caught the fish, then I believe you. Look at J's second set of pictures, Are they tems to because they have red on the lower part of the caudal fin?

AND, the fish J has post, where caught in Guyana?

The mass majority of Pbass that comes from Guyana, Suriname, Guiana are Ocell's. You have a link to the sight you've been looking at?

And I was reading someplace ( I'll find the link), But, the "experts" think that a cross between Orino's and tems would produce the rare pbass Fogo. I don't know.....
