when my pygos were at 4" size I feed once or twice a day. depends on the amount of food but there's really no need to feed 3 times a day if you stuff them during every feeding.
a lot of pygos look kind of ugly when they are in adult or sub-adult size due to over feeding. if you plan to feed them more often then make sure you have enough current in the tank for them to burn off all the extra calorie. When mine were at around 6-7" size I feed once or twice a week. more frequent water change is always good, since you used to keep discus so you know how to keep water quality top notch.
pretty much all the fish in the amazon time their breeding season with raining season, so trigger would be similar. rbps are very easy to breed compare to other pygos, sometimes they'll even breed when you don't want them to. the difficult ones are to get caribe and piraya to breed. could be your next challenge if you find breeding rbp is too easy
