Hobbyists vs non hobbyists.

Lol. nope, i am in love with myself to much, one of the great things about being A homosapein (sp) is we are aware of ourselves, can reflect on the past and think about the future, and be aware of the moment.

Nothing against gardening cause I think it's pretty cool. My buddy is gd at it and never gets the negative responses I get with fishkeeping. He gets a 99% "that's awesome" type of response. I might get a 50% if I'm lucky. Can't figure it out

I found that if you enjoy it and you show your pride for it less people will put you down. Throughout school I took a greenhouse operations course as it was part of my co-op. I got the odd comment and insult about it but the more I talked the more I got people interested. It started with people making jokes then they started asking questions, that's when I sensed their jealousy as secretly we all wish we had a hobby that we could be proud of:) that's why taking pride in what you do is the most important thing

All my family members and friends think I'm crazy for enjoying this hobby. And people in my school wonder why I like to keep "stupid" fish and spend so much money on them. Some kid approached me in school and asked "dood y do u spnd monee on fish thryr jst gona dai anywayz juzt bai a dog" I tell him that dogs will die anyways too and he says "wel dogz r cute and fish r dum" and I tell him to keep a red devil for a year and then come back and say that and he says "wuts a red devl?///" Any other situations like this you've encountered?

who knows? maybe it's the same reason some people feel the need to ridicule someone for a difference of opinion. just one more way to feel falsely superior.
are you saying no person on the planet has a hobby that doesn't make you wonder what they see in it? that you get into spinning wool, or assembling electrical devices, or listening to shortwave broadcasts?
and no, I've never had someone mistype while speaking.

I agree with lepistosteus, I am quite proud of the fact I have an interesting hobby that gives me a lot rather than only being interested in getting drunk or high like some people my age.

humm, i like loud rock and roll and beer when doing my water changes and filter maint.

but at 54 think i am getting into old man territory. :nilly:

I don't get offended if people don't understand why I'm into fish keeping. Hell, I don't truly understand why I'm fascinated staring into a fish tank. All I know is that I get mesmerized when I do stare into my aquariums. I guess for me, and most people here, I suppose fish keeping causes a release of endorphines making us "oh, so happy!"

So, basically.....you get it, or you don't. There's no way to explain or share this adoration, so don't bother explaining or justifying to those who don't "get it". Just tell them it brings you joy and happiness period

People do think I'm slightly fish mental having so many tanks in such a small house , and talk of fish rooms etc once moved to a bigger one , but there's plenty of hobby's out there I just don't get such as train /plane spotting etc likewise with keeping pets insects are one I've never been bothered with and birds but its each to there own I suppose and I like MONSTER FISH :D
