Alright you ammonia freaks! Here's another test (as of 3/20/08). Unless I'm colorblind, it appears as though the green has gotten lighter, meaning ammonia continues to decrease!! Also, I think nitrites have risen slightly. I'll be doing a 50% WC tomorrow and will retest and post the results.

We're almost there!

Whoever told you to put 12 scrubbies per bin may be walking you into a trap. I had 10 in one tray on one of my fx5s, and it was always burping and blowing bubbles with low flow rates. After numerous trial and error trouble shootings, I took the scrubbies out and replaced them with biobeads, and the filter stopped bubbling and burping. On my other two fx5s, I have 9 scrubbies in one tray in each cannister, and they did not have a problem with the flow, burping and bubbles. Good luck!

Oh, and I managed to squeeze some more scrubbies in my baskets. I'm now at 12 per basket. I am POSITIVE that you cannot fit more than 12 in there!

Thats what I said, now you should have enough space for the BB... :naughty:

It looks like you will be done cycling in no more then 2 weeks probly less then that...

could some one please pm dr. joe or oddball to explain surface area of media and trust me you will learn grasshopper

Ok, just did another test. I posted up pics of the last 3 days test to show the side by side comparison. Its pretty obvious that the scrubbies are doing something in there. Ammonia is now down to about .25ppm from 6-7ppm a few days ago. Nitrites have just about peaked and should be coming down soon.

So far, I have not noticed any problems with the flow rate of the FX5 by having 12 scrubbies in each basket. The flow is the same and there is no burping/gurgling whatsoever.

Oh, and here's the link that shows the surface area of the various medias
