Holy ammonia levels batman!!!!! (pic)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have you used anything in the tank like ammo lock or anything similar that is supposed to detoxify ammonia? If you have the altered ammonia is still picked up by your test kit as ammonia even though it's supposedly inert. I have this problem with one of my tanks atm - ammonia reading is off the chart, real reading of harmful ammonia? NFI. Only way past this is lots of water changes and will be a while until I can be sure my test kit is reading true again

Nope, haven't added anything. Just the fish and fish food

UPDATE:

Tested my water again last night and I think something is finally happening. Looks like ammonia is going down and nitrites are starting to climb. Is this normal? Should ammonia be at 0 by the time nitrites spike??

Hey man I'm in the same boat as you with my new 220g tank. Fish are acting fine and taking food as fast as I will give it to them. Amonia is sky high.I have been doing water changes daily and keep adding cycled sponge filters to the tank trying to get the cycle done with. I'm using a canister filter also but I have the ceramic rings in it. Good luck man!! You have a nice thread going with lots of info in it.

Oh I'm also using ammonia chips (aka White Diamond) they seem to be doing little to nothing.

Good stuff. I did two huge (60-70%) WC on the weekend, and I'll do some more this weekend. And its odd that the fish are doing so well. People say that they should be suffering from ammonia burns and what not but the fish act totally the opposite. In fact, here's a pic of my carpintis in that tank. Seems happy to me??

Oh, and I managed to squeeze some more scrubbies in my baskets. I'm now at 12 per basket. I am POSITIVE that you cannot fit more than 12 in there!

that is just my little creation :) just a bunch of masking tape and spray paint. I have a few other threads where I go into more detail. You should try it on yours
