yea in the pic here it looks like 106 but the picture you posted in the media section looks like 166. don't you kind of wish the other side says 666 on this big bad wolf, if that was my wolf i would want it to say 666 :)

Jelly, have you pmed Brave to come check out this thread? He might be able to help you ID it. I knew these wolves were something special as soon as I saw the the pics in the other thread. Congrats on the awesome wolf bro.

Would have been a little bit cooler. It's slightly irritating now that when I look at it now all is see is the numbers. My mind had them looking like jaguar spots before.

sorry that I ruined your jaguar wolf, it's now numeral wolf..

It is hard to tell. The picture from below the head is a bit out of focus, so I couldn´t really count the number of pores to see wether or not it is Hoplias australis. It is definately not Hoplias curupira, as a specimen of curupira would have multiple mini-pores on the dentary by that size, rather than well defined and single pores. Still, I am not sure if that is a Hoplias australis. It could also be Hoplias brasiliensis, by the colour pattern in the second, lateral picture. I have the impression that H. australis is somewhat goldish, but it could be lighting in the tank throwing off this artifact.

It is very difficult to tell H. brasiliensis and H. intermedius apart. The first has 38-43 lateral line scales, while the second (the one from São Francisco) usually has a bit more: 42-46. Also, H. brasiliensis is usually a rather small species (I think it is the smallest among all of those split from the former lacerdae-group). I couldn´t count with confidence the number of lateral line scales on the picture showing the entire fish, but it seemed to me it was around 42, which doesn´t help out much. The location would help a lot in findind out precisely where it came from. My guess because of the pics are not very good but based on distriubution from the collection point to the hobbiest. Most likely this wolf is a intermedius, which we used to call the lacerdae from sao francisco river. The reason I say this is because any wolfs coming out of brazil to the usa are rare in the hobby. So from that stand point, the intermedius which i have had a few myself; are more common and this is most likely the true id of this fish.
Here are some pics

Thanks Braveheart.

Reading the Taxa document it makes it very difficult to tell the two apart. Reading it they could very well have copied and pasted the text. The images have been shrunk to post on the thread. At full res I am counting 43 scales although this doesn't help as both of these fish can have this number. From looking at pictures like the one Braveheart has linked from Sao Francisco I will go with intermedius as the species.

The side of the cheek is different from yours.

stock came in as Hoplias Intermedius

Still think your is a lacerdae...does that mean you hit the jackpot

In my country Intermedius can consider cheap...
while a lacerdae can reach the price of aimara...

Bought as black wolf price still worth it. :D:D
