I'm looking at setting up the Ultima on my 500 now, was wondering if there are any drawbacks to using a smooth hose, not the ribbed kind, vs pvc pipe.
My parents has a similar filter on their pool which uses hoses instead of pvc and its 7500 gallons and they havent experienced any issues.

Thanks

Ribbed will cause a little more friction on the overall water flow. Smooth PVC sure is nice and cheap. I would do normal PVC

Pvc all day, I wouldn't setup my canisters any other way.

if you can use the white pvc hose that would work best. With hardline pvc you will have hard angles ( 45/90 degree angles) where as the hose will have smooth flowing turns and angles. Alot of people dont realize how much flow they lose with 45/90 turns.

Thats what I'm thinking. I will head out tonight and check it out. Seems to be a faster setup as well, no glue, etc.
