Hose VS PVC on Ultima Filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright, what the hell am I doing wrong? I got the flexible spa hose for the Ultima, I put on the two bonding agents for the spa hose and regular pvc pipe. It says 30 seconds or so on the label to dry, I let it dry 2 days. I go to put the hose on the filter, and it comes right off. Everyone is telling me this is supposed to work but yet its not working for me and I'm about toss this whole project out the window....

Sounds like you are trying to bond plastic hose to PVC which won't work. Pics?

That should work. Doesn't look like you primed the hose, also the adapter looks short. The slip should be about 1.25" deep. When bonding PVC you should give it about a 1/4 turn once inserted. You must also hold it in place for a few minutes because the chemical reaction will push the hose out. That spa hose is flexible PVC.

This is the video I watched just to make sure I was doing it right, which I am. Im thinking like you said, It may not be deep enough. I did the 1/4 turn as well and it got rock solid. Seems like when the flex pvc moved, it cracked the bond and fell out.

My guess would be that you're probably not using enough cement.

I used Christy's Red Hot Blue Glue on all my PVC connections (I had about 30 to glue) and the pieces are impossible to pull apart. I had no leaks and I was a complete amateur. I had some rigid PVC pipe as well as some flex PVC (all 2") and it worked great. I've heard that Christy's Red Hot is the best stuff out there. No primer required.

In my opinion, I think the dude in the video is being a bit aggressive in removing the "excess cement." I would be more careful when removing any excess.

I checked around online and saw that others were using Christy's as well, which I may do. It was hard to remove the cement, the primer was thin, cement was thicker but it still fell off easily.

I normally use Christy's which does not require a primer.

FYI. If you don't install a union at the filter, you won't be able to disconnect the system without cutting the pipes. You also won't be able to open the filter easily.
Here's mine with union.

I was wondering how in the heck I was going to twist on the pvc to the filter with 10 feet of hose flopping on the other end :) I will have to get me one of these
