Nothing really "wrong.".,......LOL..........Just, if you were looking for GT tankbuster, by buying from a LFS, you succumb to the potential of weak genetics.........The best thing to do is to purchase from online sources such as Jeff Rapps...........Tangledupincichlids.com has all the good stuff cichlids to get............You get the top quality wild caught speciman that you were dreaming of about.....And best of all, they have distant blood line ties from the common lfs...........So breeding will be way OK, if decided to in the future...........Just remember to window shop before purchasing a long living cichlid monster............

+1 I have to agree with the above and have experienced this with a few fish bought from said chain pet stores. Not to say you will always end up with a genetically inferior fish from one of these store, just the chances are higher.

I lived in Charlotte, NC, for 3 years. If you are anywhere even close to Lake Wiley on the southeast border of NC, I would check out Fintastic if you have not already. It is a great fish store with tons of livestock and tanks. I have seen a few GT's for sale there that were just incredible looking and with awesome personality. I would get rid of the fish you have and make a trip there, even if it's 2 hours away, it is worth it (obviously call to make sure they have a GT in stock). I was about 45 minutes away from Fintastic and would go there every Sunday just to check out all the tanks.

As far as food for a GT- I would stick with high quality pellets as the staple and mix it up with these; bloodworms, skinned peas or spinach/romaine lettuce, algae wafers and the occasional treat of live crickets or red worms.

If I'm ever Down deep in north Carolina I'll check out that fish shop.

As far as getting rid of my fish, I just couldnt do that yet. I'm the only person I know local that has these big fish and I couldn't stand to give it back go the crummy let store or kill it. I'll just work with what I have :)

I'd agree on the idea of who the tankmates are. My GT was 3rd largest in a 150, but the whole tank feared a large Purple Rose Queen, to the point that my festae cowers in fear even after its gone. The day day after I gave away the rose queen, it was like someone flipped a switch on thye GT, from grayish, to brilliant green sides, and the tail suddenly looked like it had been dipped in orange paint.

Just watch the water quality, and keep the aggression in check. Bezt if the GT can be "king of the tank"

In need of advise:
I see pics of multi-colored green terror cichlids and want one. My LFS has gt's but are only 3" and have no color (or minimal at fin edge). How can i tell if they will become green or multi colored?

They should already be colourful at 3 inches if they are good quality.

This is mine. Sorry, pics with my cell are crummy. The lines and dots flash nicely and although hard to see, hes got orange edging his tail and dorsal fins

Post #51.....call Jeff Rapps, talk to him about it. Get a group of 6-8 and breed 'em.
