Feeders bring disease, don't do it. Goldfish also have a growth stunting inhibitor affect on fish when used as food.

Yet they are one of the most sought after feeders? I never thought a feeder would promote less growth. Never heard of such a thing. Only scrappy, overstocked feeders could do this IMO. Not so sure on stunting.

Studies have been done and its been proven time and time again, almost all feeder fish promote growth stunting. I did alot of research on this topic over the last 8 years when raising Piranha. There are many topics on this subject if you go to Pfurys website. If shes turning orange, shes a she!!! Congrats on the long frustrating journey.

Optimist, I havent looked at my little female that I posted in your previous posts, the bigger of the 2. The little one was victom of the bigger female. Anyways the little girl has been hiding on me for the last week and a half so I moved the rock she has been hiding behind and boy can I tell you she has the darkest bars and dorsal! She looked like she was going to mop the tank with me. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Hows yours doing? Havent heard in the last few days? I think the biggest reason Im having good results is because my fish have plenty of hiding spots in the tank. Bad on the other hand since she turned territorial and killed everything in the tank. Guess you cant have it both ways.

The colors on my festae (especially the one I know is a female) are really improving. The blotch on the dorsal is becoming darker as well. She is really becoming more and more aggressive as her color get better.

not sure from the pic but i think u have 2 males
females dorsal fin should be half way black
and both of those appear to have the male speckles
here are some pics of the one i pic'd up sunday
and these are 5-6" with the female being the bigger

thats a really odd looking face for a festae... and mine were red from 2" on. i dont know what else to call them but ugly. ive stared at the pics for quite a long time now and while they are more festea then anything else i can think of they dont really look like festae either. i would call or e mail rapps and complain if i were you.

They are definitely Festae. Festae color up at different times. It is honestly kind of pointless to try and turn them red. Just feed them a quality varied diet and it will happen as they become more mature and less stressed. Honestly the most important thing I have found to keep them red is to make sure they feel dominant. They will take care of the rest. Festae's colors are not really set until they reach a length of at least 5 inches sometimes larger.

Also with those pics it is impossible to tell if they are male or female. The one looks for sure female but the one you have marked as male could be either I can't tell and nobody else can for certain either with that pic. Males CAN have dark coloring to their dorsal like the females when stressed. You really just need to be more patient and in a couple months everything will sort itself out.

Here are some updated pictures of the female:
