you have an 11'' open square..comon sense that the aro can jump out of that 11'' square. or you shoulda taped the lids down

common sense does not say tape the lid down. It says there is a good chance that a 30" fish cannot get a lid moved that has a 4' shop light on it moved and out of the tank in one shot. the fish would have had to go straight up (then hit the celieing (sp) Which is only about 18" from the top of the tank) then somehow still have enough force to get the rest of it's 30" body out of the tank.

Now there was NO way I or anyone could have predicted this was going to happen. And if I were to tape down all the tops I would have to replace the tape EVERY day so I can feed or get my W/Cs done. and that's a hassle.

It was deffinitly a freak acciedent that I am going to have to try to find out how to prevent from happening again. Which I allready have a few ideas.

But as far as this being semi asked for b/c I didn't tape down the top. COME ON. that's B.S. if you ask me.

I still keep coming back to look at this, wish there was something I can do... I was deprived when I lost my 6". Maybe try wood on top and some weights. cut the wood in half so you dont have to remove all the weights and deal with the whole top, just a half of it. IDK but goodluck with whatever you decide next

your right its not common sense. only someone who experienced it like you would know from now.

Sorry koop... but only a 4" shop light for weight:( Looks like an easy lift for a 30" aro:(

Wow, that was devistating, I am so sorry man.
Latches sound like a pretty good fix, or possibly somehow closing off the space between the ceiling and tank, so if there is another jump, at least it wont make it to the floor and possibly find its way back to the water. IDK what I would do, I can understand not wanting to be down their right now, my nerves would be shot!

I watched a 24" aro jump 3 FEET out of a 5 gallon bucket....... And then walk 20 feet across the LFS floor......

I watched an 18" aro bust taped down lid and glass and landed 4' from the tank..... Also the 2+foot aro I sent to hobby came out of a hole that it should not have fit out of at all..... with took out two 4' shop lights and landed behind the tank in ONE shot...

Sorry man... Common sense changes after reading about and seeing this stuff first hand...

It really sucks that your aro being so monster had to go this way :( And that you are at such a loss :( I feel for ya!! just makes me more happy that you write about it. Experience saves lives!

Sorry man! :(
