HOW did he jump through this!!!!!!! (dead 30"silver)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have been surprised by how tiny a hole an arowana can jump through i lost a 10 inch green through a 3-4 inch diameter hole, i never figured out how he could do it , but he was dead that'a fact

We all have seen the video where that Aro, with one wag of his tail, jumps 6 feet to get an insect off that limb. ONE WAG!...
As soon as that aro spotted a moth or a fly it was on it...As soon as it got the plexi moved and the light banging around on top of that, I'm sure his reaction wasn't full reverse, it was FULL SPEED ahead...An Aro that big is a powerful beast, so he went flopping all the way to the floor...

If you take a look at an Arowana from the front view, they arn't that big compared to the length and width...I bet he could get out of a hole the size of the end of a 2 x 4

It's tragic, because there is a really easy convient way to stop this...Just get some slide latches and screw them into the wood, slide the latch over the plexi, all secure and not a bunch of bricks and stuff to move, to access the tank...

Koop, you know I feel for your loss brother, You'll bounce back from this too...Your other Silver will grow faster in this bigger tank too...

or if the TSN is really the cause of your aro freaking out at night maybe us hould seperate them so that the aro can live through calm nights not thrashing

I don't think it was the TSN b/c they grew up together. the more I think about it I think he might have still been realy stressed from the move still. But I will never be sure.

Hey ben. I like the idea I'll have to check around to see what I can get like the pic.

Right now I have moved to putting chuncks of 4x4 on top of the tank as well. I don't want to add to much weight b/c I don't want the tops bowing. But I will do something along the lines of what you have a pic of.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I am still trying to deal with my black getting out of what looked to be a sealed tank myself.

Although nobody knows for sure, it is likely the cause for the silver jumping is the other silver. I have kept a pair of silvers(now about 27") together for a year and a half. I can't tell you how many times I've woke to massive spashing. Most of the time the silvers were the only ones in the tank.

I hear ya there...I got 3 Silvers in grow out and they're 12" now...I have been awakened by the thrashing of them for no apparent reason...I get up to see who's injured and they look at me like guilty teenagers, as if to say "what?" bottom all stirred up and stuff...:grinno:

sorry for your loss buddy but if you have any size hole in your tank your asking for trouble.

Steve

got ya. Not a bad iead. I still have to find them I am running to ace in a little bit but I more then likely won't buy from them they will want like 5 bucks each they are allways HIGH.

I agree with most of them, if u have anykind of hole ur askin for trouble. u would never expect an aro to get thru holes but they do, prob because they are spawn of david blaine. :WHOA:

i once saw my buddies aro who was 26" hit hit glass tops to hard it made the glass hit his wooden canopy and throw AN ATLAS... YEA AN ATLAS almost 20 feet and hit the wall 2 ft from my head. aros are no joke u have to keep everything coverd and have big weight or nice locks on everything. ive prevented all my aros from gettin out but its my polyps that always go flopping.:nilly:
