how do 450 fish die in 12 hrs??

Sorry to hear man. Especially if you have money invested in the livestock. Sounds like it might have been an overnight power outage with some nasty lack of oxygen. If it was heat or water parameters or illness there would be significant signs of it among the tanks.

I saw the same thing happen at a Petsmart near me; went in around lunch-time and all of their tanks held dead and/or dying fish . . . apparently, whoever locked up late that night had somehow turned off the power to all the filters . . .

i.e., power failure, no oxygen . . .

sorry to hear about that. local petco's have had some major trouble I've noticed, it seems liek bad shipment of fish last 4 petcos i"ve been to only have 1/3 of their tanks running, the other 2/3 are empty.

such a bummer.

have you used any cleaning supplies or anything that could become airborn and find its way to the tanks? i know that people have accidentally poisoned their tanks by getting overzealous with febreeze, pesticides, other aerosol household chemicals...... any possibilities here?

true that
i would think fish could survive without filtration for more than 12 hours in a 20 gallon tank. when the powere went out durring hurricane Ike my friend didnt have power for 3 days and only one fish died in his 40 gallon over populated cichlid tank. this doesnt sound right. i would suspect foul play or some kind of revenge. who was the person to lock the store up that night?

duncan do you live in a warm climate? if so, then, maybe the water was much too warm for a few hours... angels like warmer water than many other tropical fish, so they would be more tolerant of extremely warm water.
