How Do I Get My Arowana Off Of Live?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you know a good trick? if your aro eats nightcrawlers than i can maybe help you because i did this with my other fish, not particularly aros but other fishes

first get some night crawlers, some pellets of your choice, a bowl, water and syringe =D
-squeeze the the dirt out of the night crawler, and make sure its dead
-crush the pellets and mix it with water so that you have a mixture (make sure its not too watery/too gritty but just right, you'll get the hang of it)
-take the syringe and get some of the mix and put it in the nightcrawler

I did this and eventually got my fish to eat pellets because they soon recognized the scent and it only took a few tries

starve it

eat or die.

i have a large silver and a spotted gar that were eating tuffies and i wanted to switch them over to shrimp so what i did was took some shrimp and cut them into pieces that were the size of the tuffies and threw it in the tank they took right to it without having to starve them and have been onthem sence.

mine ate superworms and nightcrawlers at your size and took to silversides, smelt, and shrimp with no problems. He will get too big for pellets, and seafood is not much more expensive. as someone said, you can stuff the seafood with pellets later on.

arowana can go a while without eating i got lucky and mine already ate pellets when i got him anyways iv'e heard you can but pellets into other stuff your already eating him like fish or shrimp. Also im not sure but i think its easier if you try to get them to switch when there younger:):)

Before I was smart enough not to keep fish bigger than I could provide a suitable tank for it's entire life, (1993) I had a beautiful Silver Aro. Like you I couldn't get it off live but I did some research on them. (Before the internet was so popular) I found that they eat bugs and tried crickets. After a week or so I started throwing in freeze dried krill in with them and once they started eating the krill I expanded the menu. After about 3 weeks, anything that hit the water was lunch. The plus side of the krill gave an beautiful red back and I was able to sell it to a more prepared individual who grew it out to 24 inches before it commited suicide by jumping out of the tank one night.
