So I have been dating this gal for about a year and a half and I now live with her in a pretty big foreclosed home that she bought--she's a big time money saver:) I started the fishkeepering hobby Jan 8, 09 and now this hobby is well on its way of being a cichlid breeding business. So my question is.... How the hell do I get her more into what I'm doing?! I've tried and tried and lately she was understanding when I told her I don't want anymore tanks and that I'm completely satisfied...little did I know at the time I would eventually be setting up 3 more tanks (46gal, and 2 10gals) and now I'm considering buying a 125 gallon setup for $125. So right now I'm debating whether or not I should do this because that would be my 7th tank to add to this list: 110gallon, 72gallon bow, 46gallon bow, 20 gallon, and (2) 10gallons. (all but the 72gallon are in the basement so I think this helps since she doesn't have to look at all of these tanks ALL of the time:)

It takes time.....try asking her what fish she likes and set up a tank with/for her. Its taken my girl a couple years.....and she has a 40g hex(growout), for her fancy goldfish.

lol from expirience with my last relationship, if your spouseisnt into it dont force her, just try and show her some cool stuff and "pretty" fish and hope she gets into it, if not, just ask for the respect of supporting your hobby, cant do much more than that.... GL, just keep in mind you shouldnt give up your hobby totaly for her and she shouldnt ask that aof you..... youll be fine ....

My wife isn't into fish at all. She likes to look at and mess with a few specific species when feeding, but does not have interest for the hobby at all. Just something that we don't do together. Of course, I get to do whatever I want so...... LOL

its kinda hard to pick out fish that the females will find appealing. Most of us prefer cichlids and rare species, whereas the females like the beautiful tail of a guppy or the bubbly eyes of a goldfish.

My wife is not really into the hobby. I try to make the tanks look "natural" instead of the laboratory look. Especially in the living areas. The tanks cannot make noise and cannot smell. Basically she wants to see a nice piece of furniture that doesn't draw negative attention. Also my fish just eat pellets! LOL I never feed my fish mice or feeder fish! Ever! :naughty:

As a female..

I would suggest nixxing the smaller tanks. Women dislike clutter, so we would deal better with 240 gallons in 2 120 tanks vs 240 gallons in 12 20 gallon tanks.

Also, take her with you and see about setting up a community tank for her. Women aren't always about guppies. I started out in fish with a 5 gallon for my daughter. I have a 55 SA community that I love- I thought that fish were totally boring when I started. I love certain cichlids, and my Angels give me a great mix of a pair of decent sized cichilids with personality but I also get my rams and tetras for color :)

Luckily my now girl friend loves it, she loves my 210 and 220, she likes it so much i bought her a 20 gallon long for a grow out, but the onlyway i got my ex into it was showing her fish and found out she liked salt water tank so i bought her one and set it up for her. pretty much just get find her something she likes and start from there,
