How do I get rid of snails??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
goldfish and koi are harty fish, if you aclimate them to the warmer water they will be fine just do it slowly. The koi and fancy fish in my pond outside did fine this summer when the temp spiked and the water rose up to 80. If your that worried about the temp just drop it slightly under 80 and add a bubbler to stir up the water. As far as different types of loaches i have four YOYO loaches that go crazy over snails. I actualy keep snails breeding in their own little tank to feed my loaches and my puffer. I dont think you could raise the temp of the tank high enough to kill the snails without also killing your fish.

catch them all and send them to me. i had around 200 snails and my puffer ate em all. i cant believe that fatty ate them faster then they could reproduce. give them all to meeeee

I like the koi trick, but I keep my water at about 82 degrees F. Is there a point where the snails will not be able to take a certain temp. if I raise it or will I just speed the rate of reproduction of them up? Thanks.

My Minnessota/Canadian snails are thriving in 90+ degree water. And they are on their fourth generation in as many months.

Ghost shrimp eat baby snails. The snails in my ghost shrimp tank are breeding like crazy but their babies keep dissappearing. I should be on my third generation by now but I can't get any to survive in that tank. The ghost shrimp love them. Also, there is a product called Snail Away.

hey i had the same problem with snails in my community tank. they have even infested inside the wet dry filter , my water quality is still fine though, i got 4 loaches and they seem to be doing the job. How heavily planted is the tank. If possible, move the plans to another tank so the laoches can do their thing. I feel your pain, its crazy when you look at the tank in the middle of the night and the sides are covered in snails. good luck :headbang2

I feed mine to my GSP's :) But my GSP's aren't very plant friendly either :)
