How do you guys do water changes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use the pump to suck out the water and a direct hose to the tape to fill up water from a stock tank because I only use still water.

I also pump my water outta the tank(faster than gravity), and i use the tap to fill back up from a sink.

I use a self siphoning gravel vac that connects to my sink. The siphon is activated by the sink being on. Once I've taken all the water I want I push the plug back into the pump and the sink water goes straight to my tank. It's nice because you can adjust the temp. Plus my tap water is dang near perfect. I still USA water conditioner just to be sure. I bought a 50 foot gravel vac with the sink hook up for 35 at Walmart. And you can buy extensions for relatively cheap as well. I hated the bucket brigade thing so I broke down and bought it and it was well worth it.

my fish tanks are near a window wher i cut a slit through the bug screen. vaccum the poop etc right out the window and add water with my 25 foot long hose that connects to the sink. and add declorinator in the process. my fish love it and so do i

19mm internal dia hose to siphon then mixer tap and hose back in on my 300...

I use a large Rio pump with a hose to the sink or toilet or outside to the trees. Or I use gravity to suck it out the window door or drain in the basement floor. I do not use the sink attachment for the python. That is the most wasteful thing you can pretty much do as a fish keeper.

I age all my water overnight in 55gallon drums beside the tanks - heat the water to match tank temp. Use a 3/4in diameter hose from the hardware store to gravity drain the water out my window to the yard. Use a pump to pump the water from the aging barrel to the tank. Prime for the whole tank volume before refilling.
One thing to keep in mind, most regular garden hoses have a coating on the inside to keep fungus from growing/collecting in the hose. This coating can be harmful to fish. I use a drinking water safe hose to fill all water barrels. You can buy the hoses at Walmart. Theyre used for drinking water on RVs.

To get the water out I have a long siphon hose that goes out the window and down the hill. to fill it back up I hooked a 3/8 inch plastic pipe to the water lines under the bathroom sink. the pipe goes to a drinking water filter then to a Solenoid valve that turns the water on and off then to the tank. it takes a long time to fill the tanks back up because there is not much flow though the filters. I mounted a float switch to a stainless steel plate that I hang on the side of the tank. The wires from the float go to the solenoid valve to turn it on and off. I have not over filled a tank since I have hooked up this system up. When I am done I role the pipe up and put it under the sink. https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_176250_-1
